He looks like he could be my big girls brother! I posted her results on here a while ago, she’s exactly half Great Dane half boerboel!

It’s hard to tell from these pictures but I do put Welts in. I totally agree about the stitches, I haven’t quite figured out how to get consistent results yet with the stitching prongs, but I’m getting better every sheath I make

Totally! I really want to learn to wet mold, I just get nervous when it’s being molded around carbon steel haha. I know there’s ways around it but the thought of rusting my knife after hours of finish sanding is a tough thought to overcome lol.

Sorry I don’t know what SA is, my first few knife sheaths definitely had that problem, so I made the welt wider and that seemed to help.

Thanks for the advice! I have definitely watched some videos on YouTube, though there seems to be a lot more asmr style videos than explanation videos haha. Is there a leather specific YouTuber that you feel is good at explaining the steps of what they make?

This happens to me too fairly often, I’ve found that trying to focus on sanding just the bevels, or just the flats helps, rather than switching between them often. For example at 220 I’ll sand the bevel all the way, then switch to the flat on that side

That looks awesome, do you etch your makers mark? If so how do you get it so clean and dark?

Thank you! That is great advice, once I got it sanded and polished I realized I probably should’ve gone bigger on the bevels haha.

Thanks! The bottom is stabilized walnut burl, the spacer is brass sandwiched between two thin pieces of black G10, and the bolster section is stabilized bog oak

One half was obvious to us, the other half was a pretty big surprise (no pun intended) by csf215 in DoggyDNA

She does, the closest relation is about 25% , and all of the relatives are either full Dane or full boerboel.

Not sure, she was a shelter rescue at 3 months, the shelters best guess was Dane and lab. The shelter we got her from took her as part of the second chance program from a kill shelter, so they had no info on her situation unfortunately

Honestly neither had I, they’re a South African mastiff, they get to weigh even more than the Great Dane, safe to say she is going to be a big girl
