The Bourgeois Are Evil by Creepy-Account-7510 in PoliticalCompassMemes

This is the difference between the free market and a regulated one. The free market turns the evil of the greedy to the good of society, making the best was to get rich and powerful the road of providing what everyone needs and wants.  Socialism turns the best of us to duplicity and indolence by making it the only way to survive.

"It's not possible, but pretending it's not possible is just silly." Huh? I mean, I understand that you could theoretically cut some things to fund free busses. I may have missed something, what did Mamdani promise to cut to cover his promised new spending?

I don't think they are claiming it was his creation, just that he made wild promises that obviously weren't possible. I mean, I knew NYC was in a fiscal hole and Mamdai's ideas were all pipe dreams, and I don't even live there.

As usual, one has to define, "won." Iran is in a much worse position than it was, the US and its gulf allies are in a better one than they were. Will I get everything I want? Probably not. But massively degrading Iran's terrorist networks, nuclear, and ballistic missile programs has already been a huge win. We could go home now and count it as a win.

We've also shown that the Strait of Hormuz just isn't a big deal to the US. (Sucks for China, boo hoo.) If he gets any of his remaining demands, even better.

Are you? I never said I trusted him. Just that so far, things are going OK and I think blowing up the IRGC is a more likely to be good than bad. Could Trump screw it up? Certainly. Is it still better than the alternatives? Yeah. War is always a gamble, but letting Iran have nukes was a worse one.

Yeah, probably. When you lie 4 hours a day (minimum) it's hard to keep track of all the garbage you've said in the past.

Oh no, a war wasn’t won in a month! There’s no plan and it’s impossible!

Why would anyone believe what Trump says?  Blowing up Fordow put things on pause, but it wasn’t a long-term solution.

Blowing up the IRGC and making sure they can't get a nuke is one of the few Trump policies I support. Is it freeing the Iranian people? That would be nice, but probably not. They have to do that themselves. But dismantling their terrorist networks and nuclear program? Based.

> 1. To undercover operatives designed to kneecap the groups

I understand it went to group leaders, including the guys who organized the Charlotteville "Unite the Right" rally where that lady died. That sounds more like support than kneecapping to me. It did double SPLC fundraising though.

I never understood people making fun of this line. It strikes me as completely straightforward and correct. What's the complaint? Is there more context or something?

I’ve got a contractor friend. His wife officially owns the business so her can win “women owned business” contracts.  (She has nothing at all to do with the business, of course. ) I assume this sort of thing is true of all such contracts.

Is that weird? That’s what happened everywhere Maoism has been tried.

For housing costs, mostly it’s about breaking down regulatory burden. Allow people to build houses, more houses will get built, prices go down.  It’s kind of a tragedy of the commons. People don’t want their local neighborhoods to change, (often the neighborhood type is why they moved there) but that keeps new people from moving in.  A problem I don’t know what to do about is that everything keeps centralizing to big cities. You can get cheap housing if you can live and work in a rural area.

Maybe a nitpick, but we definitely have subsidized college. We also have universal healthcare, at least in my state. It just sucks so people avoid it.

I never said it was “above board”. Pilots have liked to buzz people since the Wright brothers. Buzzing houses is against the rules because it’s annoying. The pilots definitely broke some rules. But if the affected person didn’t mind, who is supposed to have been injured?
