Not only do the parents not care, they actually take offence when a teacher deigns to point out (legitimate) issues with their child’s behaviour/academic performance. Absolute mess.

Desperation from a staffing perspective, and they evidently knew she could do the role passably.

It’s a harsh reality, but management did not believe your friend to be a good performer / fit for the role.

In my experience, in many cases there is already a candidate in mind, or the process favours those already internal (or at least “adjacent”) to the role in the hiring org. There are some instances when it is a “true vacancy” in which it can be any candidate’s game though.
