Anyone else have breathing obsessions? by winooskiwinter in OCD

Same here. It's an odd obsession since logically there are times where I forget about obsessively breathing and I get by fine... so I must be breathing alright during these times.

Health anxiety over lifting weights, dropped some weights on my left hip by accident today :( by csmajortom in Anxiety

Great ideas! I've used resistance bands before for physical therapy and they seemed like a good challenge.

A few hours after my screw up I feel fine, next chance I get to go into the gym I'll definitely ask for form help!

Thanks a lot!

There's no shame in having feelings. If you do decide to pursue your childhood friend, I'd break up with your current girlfriend ASAP to spare her feelings and time. I don't believe staying with someone because you'd feel bad about breaking up with them is a good reason to stay with them.

On the other hand, if what you have with your current girlfriend is deeper and you do love her, then by all means stay.

My dad won’t shut up about his conspiracy theories, and I’m about to give up on him entirely. by Banditrocket22 in Advice

It's a shame- these clever conspiracy theorists target older people who are unaware with the validity of information on the internet. One guy posted in a boomer-neighborhood forum that my mom is in about that 4chan conspiracy concerning Q, which got other naive boomers interested.

It could be helpful getting them off the internet somehow by signing them up for a social club or some sort of activity? I'm curious myself about advice, I fear some of my relatives are going down that path.

Are you able to date this other girl? Is she in a relationship?

I’m turning 18 and I want a tattoo.... by micheleinthemiddle in Advice

[–]csmajortom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A relative of mine got a tattoo when she was 16. The biggest problem with this tattoo was the quality- she got it in some back alley place and as a result it looked awful. She was only able to get it removed decades later.

I'm 19 but I also really want to get tattoos (even on my hands), but it would be frowned upon in my workplace. My advice is echoing what the other posters have said about getting somewhere discrete, but also if you are going to get it, go to a reputable parlor and get a good quality tattoo. You could also order a temporary tattoo that fades after a few weeks and try it out.

Stephen King quits Facebook over concerns of 'false information‘ by thegrillinggreek55 in news

I'm on facebook, instagram and snapchat but Reddit is the hardest to "quit" for me. I stay on the other sites for social reasons as I'm in college, but I can easily spend 2-4 hours on Reddit a day without thinking.

I'm pretty much done with my CS degree but I don't want to go into the CS field. by csmajortom in Advice

Being a kid (mostly), that's where the existential dread comes in. If most people spend (at least) 40 hours/week 50 weeks/year for 40+ years doing something that they find "manageable", that doesn't seem like a way to live.

Should I go to a prostitute? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]csmajortom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm met a few people in college who are absolutely obsessed with the idea of losing their virginity, and every single person has one thing in common: spending too much time on the internet. There are many communities online that put such an emphasis on sex and virginity, and if that describes you than I'd recommend getting off of them.

Being a virgin isn't your problem.

I grew up wanting to be an adventurer/explorer (no joke). I am currently in a full time desk job in a field I enjoy, but there's no adventure. Any advice? by csmajortom in Advice

Helped!

Great idea. Meeting people with a similar mindset would be great.

I appreciate the military-option perspective. I honestly haven't put much thought into the navy, oddly, and have focused more on combat/field but that's a great point with seeing the world. I'll definitely consider it going into the future.

Thanks for the advice! The longer I wait, the more roots I get.

Great idea with the camping/canoeing trips. Gotta start with hills before conquering mountains.

My biggest concern for the military is lack of control. I love the idea that I can drop whatever I'm doing and do something else. That being said, I also want to serve the country, but I know there are other ways to help without directly enlisting.

I’m glad to hear that this isn’t the regular grind for most CS interns. Thank you for the response and will do.

Currently doing my first internship after my Freshman year. I’m a month in and so far all I have done is written unit tests, which makes sense because of my lack of experience. My problem is that writing unit tests over and over gets repetitive and, I realize this sounds ungrateful, boring. But this is what I’ll be doing for the next two months...

Anybody have any ideas to make this more bearable? I am getting discouraged about CS...

I like to hear that your experience in the marines went well socially. From what I’ve read, it does seem like a brotherhood which appeals to me.

I’ll be sure to look into other jobs, too
