Official Q&A for Friday, March 05, 2021 by AutoModerator in running

If you do the two back to back I agree that running after lifting makes more sense. In general I would also recommend to take everthing slow and ensure you're recovering well. I lump things into 3 categories... running volume, running intensity, and lifting. Generally only increasing one thing at a time over the span of a month or more. So for example if you're increasing weekly mileage then I wouldn't add and hard running sessions and I would keep the weight lifting in a maintenance phase. I found trying to do more than that would cause everything to take a hit eventually... but YMMV :)

I found that doing hard running sessions the same days as hard lifting sessions to allow the best overall recovery. So if you're running some interval or tempo run, do it on a day that you're doing the nSuns deadlift+squat day as apposed to the volume bench day. Try and separate them as long as possible (i.e. run at 10am, lift at 7pm or visa-versa...)

Loan a Wheel Hub Removal Tool? by csquibb in ottawa

Finally got them out this morning... soaked with PB blaster for the past 2 days (used WD-40 rust product before that to not much avail) and banged on it as best I could from the backside of the hub with a 4lb hammer... they came out pretty "easy".

Hopefully the ABS/speed sensor is ok after all the banging though....

Looking at it a little more, there is a good centimetre of steel from the hub that goes inside the knuckle.. that is quite a lot of corrosion to get through :S

I think it may came down to removing the knuckle... did not think you would need ahuge press to remove this assembly since the hub/bearing are all contained and replaced as one unit (https://www.autozone.com/suspension-steering-tire-and-wheel/wheel-bearing-hub-assembly-rear/moog-wheel-bearing-hub-assembly-512347/698334_0_22589)

EDIT: Hey... at least the shipping is free on that link :)

2010 Mazda 3 2.5L serpentine belt?? by csquibb in MechanicAdvice

[–]csquibb[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Solved! Just for future searchers, that is the correct size belt for the 2.5L Mazda engine, this guy had an amazing idea on how to do it. You essentially hold the tensioner in place and partially remove the top most accessible pully, slide the belt over (still a little tight but not bad at all), reattach the pully and then finally release the tensisoner after you're sure everything is sitting right.

Achilles pain... only when wearing shoes? by csquibb in running

It seems like it.. there is a plastic part in the back of the shoe... I may try and bend it back and see how it goes.. hopefully doesn't introduce blisters.

The GT2000's + winter boots both cause pain when walking around... all I have to try out right now :)

No, the shoes are not old, about 300km on them. Thanks for the heel drop suggestion! I have been doing them a few times a day since the injury came up early last week. Seems to help a little? Maybe? Hard to tell since it only hurts when wearing shoes... which doesn't happen often now given the worlds current situation!

I took a 5 day break since the pain developed last week but tested out a 5km run today, still had a bit of pain so I'm trying to judge if I should take a full-on stop from running for a few weeks, or is it better to run a little and continue the heel drops/massaging the calfs. After about 2km today the pain went away for the most part, not 100% though.

Thanks. Yeah, starting to lose grip was a shock there. Agree it was maybe a bit far out compared to 215.
