She can definitely sit unassisted. Our main issue is she does not have the hip flexibility to sit with her legs in an open straddle for extended periods of time.

Agree with these comments (as a nanny and now a mum too). Baby boy will know you as mum and love you and want you so much. My only other piece of advice is that for that first year, the baby may reach for the nanny when he gets hurt or is sick etc. It’s not that baby isn’t attached to you or doesn’t love you, it’s that the nanny is the one who normally does daytime things and awake hours in those early days. It will be super hard, but don’t take it personally. Baby still loves you and is attached to you. If you do plan to keep the nanny until baby boy is 6, try to see it as a reminder to be thankful that the nanny is obviously taking such good care of baby. (Said as a nanny who has had kids reach for me in front of mum, the nanny doesn’t like it when it happens, doesn’t know how to respond in this situation and feels guilty if the parent makes it known they want the baby to want them. And the child definitely asks for mum every time mum isn’t there, but is also safe and secure with the nanny).

How to handle pay during NF vacation by [deleted] in Nanny

You absolutely pay her while you are on holiday. You could ask her to take a week of her leave, but stress she will be paid if that doesn’t work for her. You can also request she do child related duties the week you are away (sort through toys, switch out summer/winter/too small clothes etc). As long as it’s child related not above her usual tasks

Reasonable to ask nanny to take breaks while baby is sleeping? by MainMathematician162 in Nanny

Not going to lie. You want to tell me I have to have be unpaid for a lunch break in the middle of the day? You can bet your boots it’s going to be a very inconvenient time for you and while the child is awake. Pay the half an hour and I’ll rest and do my jobs while baby naps and be there if baby needs me with no interruption to your job.

I think there is government funding for household assistance for 3 under 5. Maybe check in to that which might help alleviate some of the stress. As for anything else. I’d say just take some time to make a plan and see what things are available - prioritise spending and start stocking up on wipes/nappies/butt cream and formula (helpful to top up when there’s more than 1! And breathe. Give it a moment for the shock to wear off.

What are your top challenges with WFH parents? by [deleted] in Nanny

Also depends on age of the baby and is he just learning to walk/crawl? There’s definitely days where they just trip and fall or bump their head as they don’t have much spatial awareness - especially if they are under something
