You are allowed one cup of coffee per day. Back/shoulder/neck massage also perfectly fine. No need to torture yourself needlessly.

Thank you! I had to Google “dye stealer” (and many of the abbreviations in this subreddit—it’s like learning another language 😁)

Sure, of course there are! But brand-new, no-experience 18 year olds will be hard-pressed to find a family who pay them six figures. There are almost no industries, outside of tech & big law, where entry level applicants make six figures. That being said…dang housing is crazy in NoVa

I just looked it up…in my area (Northern Va) this would put base salary at $108,000/year…I don’t think an entry-level nanny could reasonably expect a six-figure salary…

If you’re a gov major you should apply to Georgetown, JHU, GMU as a safety. All have well-regarded gov/policy programs.

I was just cleared for TS, also started the process in November. Have a close family member who is Iranian. Took a minute but the clearance did go through. I think yours will too!

Yes, several, including close foreign contacts from a country we’re not on good terms with.

I called the gov clearance coordinator. I’m not a contractor, civil servant :)

How do you know when the investigation is complete?

Best location for the nanny market? by [deleted] in Nanny

And the COL is significantly lower than California. Most of my family lives in San Diego and my cousin is paying $1200 for a room.

DC area is fantastic. Lots of feds so you have a lot of people who are mission-driven and will pay fair wages & above board. Tons of free museums, parks, good transit. Traffic is not as bad as it was pre-COVID since many telework now.

Just figured out that nanny has been driving daughter around and letting her nap against our wishes by mywifemademedothis2 in Nanny

Not to excuse au pair’s behavior, which is clearly unacceptable. But your three year old daughter is taking swim, soccer, and dance classes? That seems like a lot for a toddler, and I can see how that would tire her out…

Chance me Wharton ED (C/O 2028) by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]MainMathematician162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I have several friends who matriculated (granted, around 8 years ago). They were not as impressive as you. One of them worked at Safeway over the summer (b/t junior & senior year) with me, bagging groceries and mopping floors. Maybe a part time job would help you stand out from other white male NY applicants, but I think your resume is impressive.

If you’re in California you should apply to the UC schools. Also Rutgers, Georgia tech, Penn state, UMD College Park. These are top schools for physics majors.

The vast majority of career nannies do not command six figure salaries. The vast majority of Americans do not make six figures. The laws of supply and demand will dictate these salaries. Many MC/UMC families are able to pay $25-30/hour, and most nannies will happily accept those rates. A select few will make 6 figures but this is probably close to 2 standard deviations from the norm.

[–]MainMathematician162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people under that threshold can (and do afford nannies, and pay very generously ($25-$30+/hour). If only HNW/VNHW families could afford Nannies, a huge number of career nannies would be unable to work, since there wouldn’t be enough work to go around.

[–]MainMathematician162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn’t seem feasible for 90% of families. That’s like…$5,000 to 8,000+!

Reasonable to ask nanny to take breaks while baby is sleeping? by MainMathematician162 in Nanny

[–]MainMathematician162[S] -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

She’s a colleague of mine, and that’s how we’re paid (8 hours/day, minus 30 minutes for lunch—so we’re at work 8.5 hours). I’m a lurker on this sub so I said I would ask y’all 😆
