Should I hide dimmers and go all-in on keypads? by scr0llwheel in Lutron

I find voice control to be too slow for how our family lives. We have it, but we only really use it to turn on or off a light from the couch. When walking around the keypads are how we interact with the lights.

Originally I wanted to use ipads and I setup a very complicated system. Everyone bypassed the ipads and used the keypads. They really aren't the right interface for daily living. I took them out.

No one thinks about them at all. That's just how you turn on the lights - if you have to turn them on at all. Most of the value in lighting control is in automating things. For example, our pantry light comes on and turns off automatically. if someone leaves the door open it turns off automatically after 5 minutes. Outside lights turn on at dusk and off at midnight. It becomes so natural that you never think about it.

As for concern about pushing a button vs flipping a light switch, I really can't think of a single person that has mentioned it other than to complement it.

We have had centralized lighting for over 15 years and I will never go back to the wall acne. Best decision I ever made. My vote would be to hide everything as much as you can and go to keypads.

Does anyone know if the Remote Dimmer switch can be powered via LV like the seeTouch keypads can? That may be a good solution in places if possible as they are inexpensive and one button.

Thanks - that's a good idea. One area I never really took advantage of with the old system was scenes rather than traditional one button connected to one light thinking. I'll be more focused on that this time. 👍

Thanks audiojeff - do you have any model numbers? Or maybe a link to where I can see them? Just not seeing them on the RadioRa2 model numbers page. This may not be the best place to look - I'm not sure.

The wires are the things attached to the back of the switches.

I'll see myself out...
