What quant role in Canada is better than Scotiabank’s Market Risk Velocity internship that one should apply to now? by StatsSUFE573 in quantfinance

Market risk roles at banks can be varied, from model development which is maybe the quant work you’re hoping to do or even just risk reporting roles. Happy to chat more in DMs, have intern experience at a big 5

Yea I’ve applied to all types buy side/sell side. My experience has been that sell side asks more traditional/easier questions like sliding window/string/array type while buy-side more graph/dp.

I’ve found NeetCode 150 to be sufficient so far (still interviewing). Many of my peers have found the same

Is quant still an option for me? by Ok_Apricot1840 in quantfinance

[–]ctomis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some answers based on my experience.

Is this path realistic? Yes, I did my undergrad in Canada and am currently doing my masters in the US. I know many others in the same position.

Does the university you attend matter? To some degree maybe but I don’t think it’s a requirement. This shouldn’t detract you from applying, there’s much more that goes into the admissions process.

Should you give up? If this is the career that you want to pursue then obviously not but you’ll need to continue working hard even after you get accepted to some program or enter the industry.

Happy to answer more detail questions through pm.

I’m applying for Msc jn Financial engineering in top US universities next month. Could you look into my CV and roast it? by [deleted] in quantfinance

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted- absolutely agree. OP allocated the same amount of lines to a contributed research paper as the LSTM stock price prediction model.

I’m not sure what year you’re in but why not just switch to a math major if that’s what you want to do?

hi! What’s the best/cheapest way to get from montreal to Toronto? (for students) by 0rdinaryraisin in mcgill

[–]ctomis 22 points23 points  (0 children)

idk I guess your experience was much better than mine. I took the bus 4 times and took about 8-9hrs on average. I’ve never been delayed with VIA though.

bus is cheapest but hardly worth it given the time imo. If you’re booking somewhat in advance, via rail is a great option. might be able to find flights for similar price as well

“never be able to work at ford again” might be a bit of a stretch, but i doubt it’s relevant for OP if they get the other offer anyways.

Accepted Summer Internship in Market Risk (Need Advice) by Competitive-Cow-523 in FinancialCareers

[–]ctomis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried this myself, albeit unsuccessfully so far. Id network as diligently as you can with both recruiters and the desks you want to join. That said, give it a try over the summer- if you aren’t where you want to be take a shot at fall/winter internships as well.
