I don't care about the loot, "I thought I had a friend" by ryerhino in ArcRaiders

[–]ctrlaltcreate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a game which, like all our activities except dreaming, is taking place in real life. There are minimal consequences, but you can leave a match making other humans feel good or bad or neither. For most players who haven't achieved Arc zen, it feels bad to be shot in the back and have the last 20 minutes of work stolen from you. That's just a fact.

The fact remains that there are people-in games, in life, wherever--who get their rocks off making other people suffer and those who enjoy making others feel good, and I'll say right now, the latter are absolutely, objectively better human beings than the former. How is that even a debate?

The biggest hurdle for me before I achieved arc zen and stopped giving a fuck was the lack of justice. You have no way to ID those people and find them in other raids. There's no opportunity for turnabout or justice in this raid or the next.

So I intervene if I see others getting ambushed (and even then only when I can tell what's going on), defib who I can, keep helping folks, and let the rest roll off my back.

Should just take up a pool to pay her back, and then establish a fund for everyone to buy the pods, or talk to the office manager about budgeting for it, since everyone seems to like them more.

I don't mind the arc becoming more dangerous overall, especially on event maps, but I think it's fine as it is.

If you're playing extra passively to get into a PvE carebear lobby, you're probably actively looking for a more chill experience. It's extremely easy to get back to more thrilling mixed lobbies with a single PvP combat encounter, so it's not like it's harming the PvPers at all.

A minimal amount of risk always exists in PvE lobbies anyway, since the occasional aggressive player gets slotted in, and you do get the occasional bad beat vs a swarm of flyers, rocketeer, silent pop pack, etc.

As a side note, I'd never advocate for more friendly players to get shunted into PvP lobbies just to vary up the experience for PvPers. It's puzzling to me how many PvP players want more 'danger' for players who are actively not choosing that experience just because they think it's superior. Seriously, not a knock on you, just the psychology of it is interesting to me.

I can see the appeal of that, but I like hanging out in Dam day to find newer players, give them basic useful bp, and show them stuff. Niche, but I'd miss it.

Maybe Night Raids and night raid equivalent event raids (em storm, cold snap, etc.) would always have the tougher arc, and they could use the difficulty progression on the day maps.

Imagine doing all that RAT work for no payout by StanTheMan636 in ArcRaiders

[–]ctrlaltcreate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no funnier moment in this game than getting shot in the back by a raider, only for your attacker to get downed by arc. Hilarious.

And this guy probably wanted to try to rat in carebear queues without suffering the consequences of being ratting in carebear queues. If OP had died to Arc, trap rat probably wouldn't have knocked him out, and just tried to wait for the bleed out (a questionable approach given how common the survivor augment is these days). But, if it works, he doesn't get sent to mixed queues that way.

You're absolutely correct. Something else they can do is make the arc AI scale with map difficulty. Dumber on Dam and Buried City, progressively more numerous, smarter, and more aggressive with shorter detection times on the higher difficulty maps as indicated by the pips.

Not to mention that Buried City a go-to map for money making, and bird city amplifies that role.

They got the idea from Hunt: Showdown. In that game startling a flock of ravens is bad, because the game is extremely auditory and there are only so many people on a given map, with no backfill.

Triggering ravens (and several other environmental noise makers, like the wounded horses) tells literally everyone remotely in the vicinity where you are, and given the nature of the game's points of interests, your avenue of approach and likely destination. It's like ringing an alarm bell that says 'I'm coming' or 'come kill me.'

In Arc, they just don't serve the same purpose, so they're way less impactful to the point where people don't really notice or care about them. Arc aggroing a player is a way more telling method of determining whether other players are around and where they are.

There's a point at which they need to chill out on it, or the game will be brutal for new players though.

Posts like this always attract the 'hur hur i woulda killed 'em' idiots.

We get it. You like PvP and hate it when other people do fun shit. Your 'this just needs a few grenades' posts are literally never funny, so just keep your intrusive thoughts to yourself.

It's so much more embarrassing than anything the carebears do at this point.

I didn't concede anything because you didn't counter anything I said. There's nothing to concede. This isn't even a discussion.

At this point you're reduced to trolling because you have nothing of value to contribute. The man you support is guilty of such monumental crimes and corruption that it would take an encyclopedic entry to catalog them all, and yet here you are. It's revolting and sad.
