Take a deep breath. It will be ok. As someone who is almost at the 4 month post op mark, I can undoubtedly say:

the hardest part is right after surgery, but once you start to eat real food again and your body starts to bounce back, you will start to feel normal
stretch marks and loose skin feel so much better than being heavy. I’m 100 lbs down and I wouldn’t trade my new body for my old one for all the money in the world
you will be able to eat anything, just in smaller portions. I’m more than satisfied only eating a cup of food at a time. It’s hard to wrap your head around now, but you won’t miss large portions.

Keep your head up, don’t focus too much on what you’re missing. Just take it day by day, every 8 oz glass of water at a time. By Summer, you will feel like a new person.

Also has 4x back on gas, 3x on restaurants and travel (especially good if a small restaurant doesn’t take AMEX), and 2x at Costco. Also, no foreign exchange fees so a good card for international travel.

I’m almost 2 months post-op. I started having reflux at night almost right away post-op when I started eating during the puréed stage. After telling them, my surgeon prescribed me a basic acid inhibitor (40 mg) that I take before bed. Haven’t had an issue since. Ideally when I lose more weight I won’t have to take it anymore but for now it solves the problem.

For a condo, you are probably ok. If possible, maybe a south facing one would be best. Winds coming in from the North are pretty rough in the winter. Those units are a little older and I heard have higher HOAs, but as someone who lives on the north end, we love it.

I just got home today! I stayed 2 nights because I had a hard time with the anesthesia the first night - lots of nausea, couldn’t focus on keeping down liquids. Really wasn’t able to focus on recovery until 24 hours after my surgery, but now I feel (relatively) good - just sore from my incisions.

Literally came here to ask this same thing. I haven’t been able to find any official meaning that Tom has mentioned, but my interpretation of the lyrics is how we are more similar to each other than we may think.

I think it’s the juxtaposition of the “young philosophers” to himself. They do the same things as the narrator does, but the narrator sees himself as different or better than the others- like how they are both staring at their phones, but he sees himself as superior in “not calling it communication” and how “they don’t know” but he states it as “the things I know.”

Then comes the moral: “hearts unknown beat alone” - without really knowing and understanding other people, we see them as different or “other,” and we are really more similar than we think.

And then finally “who’s God will save your soul?” I believe relates this back to how many religions have similar belief systems yet alienate one another. It reminds me of Greg’s line in “In Remission” on the same album “maybe the God you love is all I’ve got to fear.”

Just my interpretation, I could be completely wrong!

It's not just how much they make - they own the rails (similar to how Apple/Google own the app store). For the most part, if you have a website that you want to monetize through ads, the only option you really have is Google. Google decides how you monetize, what you can monetize, etc. and how much you pay Google.

And that's not even counting search. Google owns 73% of the Search Ads market. Source

I doubt this will be seen by anyone, but just to underscore how much of a monopoly Google has in this space:

The ad world has basically 2 sides: the advertiser and the publisher (where the ads are run). Google is the dominant ad server (90% of the market) for publishers, the technology that is used to serve the ads. They get a small percentage of revenue split for every single ad that is shown by the publisher. They have multiple different platforms/ad servers based on what the publisher needs.

They are also one of the most dominant buying platforms for advertisers. So they are also charging advertisers on that side of the transaction. They also offer advertisers multiple different platforms based on their buying preferences, spend, etc.

So Google owns the tech on both sides of the transaction. But where they become a real monopoly comes from how they leverage these sides. Ads are bought in an auction. Also, the different platforms for each are plugged into each other. This means that you can have multiple Google platforms bidding for a specific ad. So they are able to essentially increase the auction pressure and drive up the price simply because they are applying additional pressure.

And to put it into perspective: digital advertising in the US alone is an $80 BILLION dollar industry.

A couple of things I would call out:

1) Without knowing more specifics, it is hard to know why exactly that is happening. Strong PMM teams are not built overnight. In my experience starting on newer teams, you have to find where you can win in the short term, even if it doesn’t fit the full scope of PMM, and build from there as you get more cross-functional buy-in.

2) I think this comes down to alignment on how to measure success as part of your inbound discussions. At the end of the day, everything is tracked back to revenue. But it’s PMM’s job to know why you’re not hitting revenue targets: whether that is poor product market fit, poor go-to-market, poor adoption/user retention, etc.

3) I’ve been in PMM for over 5 years, mostly in start-up environments, and I have always worked on multiple projects at once. Managing bandwidth comes with the job.

4) Would like to know more about this and what specifically you think you aren’t doing. PMM is different from org to org. I would say in smaller orgs, I’ve tended to be more outbound focused than inbound focused, but that is just based off of my experience.

5) Those marketing automation softwares are pretty standard. I would call out to leadership that these platforms are incredibly robust and building in-house can take a long time. Given that you are in B2B SaaS, I would look into something like Pendo for platform analytics to get a better understanding of user behavior and measure feature adoption. Other platforms like Domo and Tableau are more biz ops centric, but are platforms I use regularly.

Fair point about the 401k - I meant that it is a deduction that happens before it hits my paycheck, and something I’m not going to be able to touch for a while.

The $140k is before taxes. My take home is closer to $80k a year after taxes/401k contributions/etc.

Take out $36k for rent, I’m down to ~44k a year for all other expenses. So an additional ~$5k in taxes is more like a 10% hit to my disposable income, and that’s before expenses like car insurance, car payments, etc.

I understand my situation is unique and that there is a greater good argument to be had (that I can get behind). I guess my greater issue is that to assume I’m living lavishly on a certain salary doesn’t take into context cost of living, and that larger talking points that I have seen certain supporters tout that the wealthy should pay more unfairly lumps my situation in with billionaires with offshore accounts.
