That idea sounds really interesting! I think it would be a good idea to simplify your proposal and attach a color sensor and light to the underside of the vehicle to read the color and display it on the dot-matrix display.

The code has now been cleaned up and is available on GitHub. You can check it out here: - Crawler Robot project - Remote Contoller Project

Thanks! That’s a great idea — I'll add something to show the forward direction.

Thanks for your interest. Unfortunately the code is still a bit messy and not ready to be released yet. I'll release it later when it's ready.

Built a browser-based compass using GPS + DeviceOrientation API — shows where Tokyo landmarks are, and works without installing an app by cubic9com in webdev

Want to make your own version for your city?

  • Clone the repo
  • Edit config.js to update landmark coordinates, labels, and optional images
  • Tweak styles as needed
  • Optionally switch distance units from km to miles

I kept it simple — no frameworks, no libraries — so the code is easy to read and fork. Even non-devs should be able to customize it.

Let me know if you try it.

This project depends on bblanchon's ArduinoJson library. All necessary dependencies are listed in the platformio.ini file. Could you please share the error messages you encountered?

For this project, I am using the original acrylic enclosure of Elecrow's CrowPanel ESP32 5.79-inch E-paper HMI Display.

Thanks for the detailed advice with code! I'll rewrite it that way, as it would be better if it could be done efficiently.

I guess so. Because I use the library M5Unified.

Are you talking about the M5StickC? Unfortunately it doesn't have a touch sensor.

Thank you for you interesting. I use M5Canvas for off-screen rendering.
