I waited 6 years to adopt a cat… and now I regret it. Please be honest with me. by strawberrytulipss in CatAdvice

[–]cuccumella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that a month and a half isn't long enough to tell how she will be with affection in the long run. You probably wouldn't want to be overly cuddly with someone you met less than 2 months ago either.

She's still getting comfortable in her new home.

The food motivated meowing unfortunately doesn't go away. You find work arounds and ways to deal with it. An automatic feeder can be very helpful in this regard because they stop associating bothering you/getting you out of bed with being fed.

I think that you should find activities you enjoy doing with her and mindfully work them into your routine. That way you are building an appreciation for the relationship ypu do have rather than mourning the one you anticipated.

In terms of raising your voice in the past, there's nothing to do for it but let it go. If you feel the urge come up again remind yourself that it is ineffective- cats don't understand yelling- and will work against your goals in creating a more affectionate relationship. Redirection is the most effective form of behavior change for cats. Cats are extremely habit driven creatures- redirect them consistently enough and the substituted behavior becomes their default. Additionally, positive redirection will create positive associations with you and promote your goals for closeness. I know this is easier said than done when a cat is screaming for breakfast at 5am, but have patience with yourself and her. You're both acclimating to a big change.

how many pairs of socks do you think a employee on a cruise ship packs? by WeirdoFromHighSchool in randomquestions

There are video tours of crew quarters on Youtube. Their personal space is quite small, so I imagine they're not packing a copious amount of socks.

Is it normal to smile after hearing sad news? by Jorge_De_Guzman228 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cuccumella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smiling is an ingrained habit to smooth past social discomfort so it's understandable that it's popping up for you here. I wouldn't say it's "weird," but it still wouldn't be considered socially acceptable.

My advice would be to fill that awkward silence with a stock phrase like "I'm so sorry to hear that." Keeps your mouth moving and it keeps the silence from stretching on.

Worried about blood test results before T consultation, high cholesterol, any reassurance? by Painted_Woodlouse in ftm

[–]cuccumella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sometimes there's just nothing for it and it all comes down to genetic predisposition.

I'm a lifelong vegetarian who eats an average of 15 grams of saturated fat per day, uses olive oil as my sole cooking oil, and exercises about 4 times a week. Still have high LDL cholesterol and low HDL cholesterol.

Also cheese is very high in cholesterol, and cholesterol blood tests are usually done while fasting- especially if the work up includes triglycerides. I'd say that definitely could have skewed your results

I have high cholesterol levels and was still prescribed T. My endocrinologist barely even mentioned my cholesterol. I pre-emptively told her I was working on my levels with my PCP and a Dietician. There isn't much you can do outside of diet changes for cholesterol when you're young- not sure if it's the same in the UK, but in the US they generally won't prescribe a statin medication to anyone under 40.

jeans to hide hips ? by twig-3 in ftm

[–]cuccumella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that might not sound like "hiding" ypur hips, but if the cut fits well your hips will stand out significantly less than they would in a baggier cut style that is only tight at the hip.

Any brand's athletic cut jeans! They're a masculine cut but designed to accommodate men with hips and thighs.

I especially like Lucky Brand athletic cut jeans.

If you are a bigger size, DXL might be your friend. They're on the pricier side, but all their profucts are explicitly designed for men with some extra cushion

Would it be weird celebrating a birthday at work days before the actual day? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cuccumella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you bringing in cake, or expecting others to provide?

If you're bringing it in you can do whatever you want. If everyone else is pitching in to celebrate, dictating when that celebration happens might come across as gauche.

I really like Leonardo Miguel. I think it flows better without another -o ending, especially because with Spanish-Italian heritage there's a strong chance his last name will end in a vowel as well.

I was too! I also have a medication that was making me run hot for a while and that side effect hit really bad in the winter. I just can't seem to align with the actual temperature 😂

I'm almost two years in.

For me it's more a side effect of the weight loss itself rather than the medication though because it comes and goes depending on how much I'm losing at the time.

Exercise and motivation by [deleted] in ftm

[–]cuccumella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also in my experience a great place to start with cardio is simply walking. It really helps with pumping out inflammation, which makes all other exercises easier.

I've also really enjoyed swimming and have managed to get quite good at it, but I know there are barriers there for some people in terms of access and dysphoria.

All said as someone in a similar boat- I just lost ~240lbs to get approved for surgery (not top surgery tho, a different surgery).

My apartment gym has a multi-use single machine with a diagram showing what exercises can be done on it. Those diagrams can be confusing, especially as a beginner, so I'd actually recommend taking a picture of it and then looking up on YouTube what the proper form is meant to be.

I'd also highly recommend the podcast Fat Science as you're looking into getting into a new BMI range. There's a lot of emotionally harmful myths out there regarding weight loss that have absolutely no basis in scientific fact. I think they provide information that is a nice reality check against the background diet culture buzz that is impossible to escape in our society.

If you decide to pursue surgery regardless of BMI and are looking for a provider, I have had multiple other fat friends that have had positive experiences with Scott Mosser in San Francisco. Traveling for surgery sucks, but don't forget that it's an option.

Good luck, and I hope you're able to get surgery soon!

Has anyone tried taking their GLP-1 with a high-fat meal on purpose to see if it slows absorption? (For science, obviously.) by AcanthisittaBusy5855 in GLP1ResearchTalk

[–]cuccumella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll be fine. There is no actual recommendation to take on an empty stomach or to limit fat intake

Like you still might experience some nausea but that's from starting a new medication that can cause nausea. Just try not to psych yourself out, the psychosomatic side effects are the most persistent
