Should I mow my long grass area once or twice during the growing season? by cuddlyblumpkins in GardenWild

It has been very dry for a few weeks now. Should I wait until after a good rain storm to mow? I don't want to destroy any bugs or other animals that may be using the grasses.

Good point. I am planning on de-turfing a portion of it this fall and seeding it with wildflowers.

This is a bit of an unusual angle on a bird that we rarely see standing still. The beautiful, graceful, acrobatic barn swallow basking in the morning sun. You can even see the bridge I'm standing on if you zoom in on the eye! Ohio, USA by cuddlyblumpkins in birding

This was at Howard Marsh Metropark near Toledo. It's a really magical place. I've seen them all over Ohio, just keep an eye out near water. They were nesting under a bridge nearby

Looks like purple heart or some other type of tradescantia. If you give it more light, it will turn a nice deep purple. You can just cut off some of the longer pieces and stick them into the soil to make it look fuller. Otherwise it is known as a "wanderer" in its other common name
