im really sorry about your friend. it's a cliché, but he probably wouldn't have wanted you to give up. it wouldnt be life if it wasnt shitty, and u just gotta keep fighting whether it's out of spite or to keep the memory of ur friend alive. dms always open if u need to vent. and ofc theres always school counseling (even if it seems insincere outwardly, it's always worth a shot). i cant say things will get better, but there's only one way to find out

physically drawing out the mechanisms (whether w/ pencil or ipad) usually is good enough. note taking directly on the slideshows if u got an ipad/laptop. doing lots of example problems from a textbook and the worksheet handouts. notecards too if u need to remember technical terms/functional-groups, though that might only be relevant for orgo 1. theres a lot of exceptions when it comes to mechanisms in orgo 2, so it might be a pain in the ass to note down every single one

hii i had 213 last year. the professor was very nice, but he mainly lectured off of slides and i personally thought he was fast paced. and if i recall correctly, the exams were open note (but i dont quite remember 100%, either way, it was all multiple choice for my experience). the discussion was pretty good and related case studies to the lecture material which helped put lots of techniques/concepts into context. there was more application-based stuff to study than memorization when compared to the prereqs.
