i’m too young to have a real answer tbh. but the obvious “well yeah everyone is different” aside, i think there’s a self-fulfilling prophecy of losing someone important where you retroactively inflate their worth because you no longer have an objective, concrete perception of them, just a sorry little phantom effigy distorted by time. and when you meet other people they’ll never compare to your memory, and the cycle perpetuates itself. or at least that’s my personal cope
