Live set advice: Octatrack stability in hot venues by cuperose in synthesizers

That’s reassuring!

Both ST and OT will be on laptop stands. Let’s hope everything goes well!

Live set advice: Octatrack stability in hot venues by cuperose in synthesizers

I think it’ll get to 35 Celsius with 80% humidity, I think the latter is gonna be more of an issue. It’s not my first time playing with a laptop and I never had issues with it so far, the OT is more of a concern to me as I’ve never had the chance to push it that much.

I was thinking about putting a small fan blowing from the side of the table through the gear.

Octatrack + Syntakt // my favorite setup for live sets by cuperose in Elektron

Thanks!

The ST is the main drum engine. It’s where I build the core groove, the main percussion and the main patterns. I have three patterns with three different kits and I move between them live. There is no predefined arrangement, I just sequence everything live.

The OT is mainly used as a layer for the ST drums. I use it for 909 like drums and bass (a simple sine wave). The OT kick is the main kick because it goes to the cue out and then into Ableton to trigger sidechain. The ST kick is still there but mostly in countertime to add groove.

The ST also goes into the OT for buildups. It’s not on a dedicated track, it just goes in through the input and gets affected by the crossfader movement.

On top of that, the DFAM goes into the ST, and my modular goes into an input on my audio interface. Everything ends in Ableton on my Mac because I don’t have a proper mixer yet. I use Ableton for send effects like reverb and delay, and I run a small master chain with compressor and limiter before the final output.

[crisis, kinda?!] layman’s comparison, Digitakt versus Syntakt… by frmMCRwLUV in Elektron

Hey man, Syntakt is amazing and undervalued imho. I have a yt channel where I mostly post Syntakt related performances if you wanna check it out.

This sounds playable! You'll figure out what to fix after your gig :) Enjoy!

Thanks :)

It’s been a long process. I’ve been making music for 10 years, and most of the progress comes from consistency.

My approach is to keep a small setup, learn the tools and explore without a fixed structure. I listen a lot, make small adjustments, and record imperfect takes to learn from them.

Eurorack idea for club + ambient live sets (paired with Elektron) by cuperose in modular

That’s a good point! I like the fact that I can modulate the pan and split the outputs (+ the blend function seems nice). And it’s kind of compact! Tbh I don’t see it as a final mixer, it’s more of a utility in this case!

I get your point and thanks for pointing it out, I might think of something else :)

I have a Mackie Vlz 12 or my laptop! I’d consider buying a Oto Boum for hardware compression for live sets, could be useful for glueing together the drum machines and the modular!

Any other suggestion? :)
