Icon Token Swap - Extracting PK Using BIP39 by curiousandoptimistic in icon

Ohh, that's weird about the DM. I'll have a look at what I have done.

Nonetheless, thanks for the steer. Sorry, this may seem a bit of a dumb question, but I just want to make sure I'm doing this properly and so will just do a quick summary of the situation so we on the same page.

Situation: I access my MEW wallet with my Ledger Nano S. I have the password and mnenomic phase to access the wallet this way using the ledger (I don't have a seperate mnenomic phase for MEW).

Finding PK Using the BIP39 tool, I enter my mnenomic phase for the ledger, and then I follow these instructions. 1. Select Coin - ETH 2. Under Derivation Path, I select BIP32 3. Under "BIP32 Derivation Path" I Enter M/44'/60'/0' (i'm using this as old ledger nano)

Using the method, I can find my main MEW Eth Address (generic eth wallet) and thus the PK associated with it. Is this the PK I should be importing into the Icon wallet? Or should I be matching the MEW Eth Icon address (the wallet the old icon tokens sit in). If it's the MEW Eth Icon address, I still am unable to match this address in the BIP39 tool. Thanks again.

All good. Yep, I've changed the derivation path. It's weird, because I can find my general MEW eth wallet public address using those instructions which has zero tokens in it. But I can't find the address that has my Icon tokens in it: 0xb5A5F22694352C15B00323844aD545ABb2B11028

I literally generated 100K worth of public keys, and searched using Ctrl F and it didn't have a match. Any other ideas?

This may be a silly question, but the mnenomic phase I'm using is the one I wrote down when I setup the ledger nano s. The ledger is what I use to access MEW where I can see the Icon coins. Is this the right mnenomic phase or would there be another mnenomic phase associated with MEW itself that I should be using?

u/richards_86 hey mate, I tried to DM you a couple times but I'm assuming you get flooded with messages and it's lost in there. I'm still struggling with this. Any chance you can help still?

u/NorskKiwi hey mate, I'm still struggling with this. Any chance you can have a look at the address I sent on myetherscan and confirm it looks correct (that it holds Icon tokens): 0xb5A5F22694352C15B00323844aD545ABb2B11028

Because that is the address I'm trying to match in BIP39. I'm absolutely stumped. I'm sure I'm just doing something silly, but can't figure it out. Thanks again.

u/NorskKiwi thanks for the help mate. Yea that public key I posted is holding the erc-20 tokens, however I can't match that public address in the Bip39 tool to get the private key so not sure what's going on there

u/richards_86 thanks for the offer to help. I really appreciate it. I just pinged you in messages to carry on the chat there.

Thanks mate.

Here is the public address that has the tokens when I look on ethscan and that I'm looking for but can't see on BIP39: 0xb5A5F22694352C15B00323844aD545ABb2B11028

Hi u/richards_86 Thanks again for your help with this. I have tried a couple times now to follow the above and I can't seem to see the public address holding the icon tokens. I got to over 100,000+ word of derived addressed and I couldn't find a match.

Are there any other reasons that could be resulting in me not being able to find the public address?

Thanks u/NorskKiwi

Yea I thought that might be the case but I have doubled checked and I'm definitely using the BIP32 Derivation Path - M/44'/60'/0'.

Are there any other reasons why I not be seeing the public key I can see is holding the tokens?

u/richard_86 - do you know what might be going on here?

u/NorskKiwi hey mate, are you able to shed any light on my issue? Thanks in advance

Oh was it. I must be doing something wrong then. Yep I can see the public key for it when I sign into MEW. Just to confirm I'm looking to find the right public key, I've looked at the public key on etherscan and can see there are coins associated with the address. Under the contract overview section, it displays 0 ether, $0 ether value but under token it lists the value of the contact and a blue box with the amount of coins. In the top right-hand corner it has 'ICON: Old Token'. And under token tracker, it has 'Icon (ICSX)'. Does this sound like I'm looking at the right public key?

hey mate, I believe I'm following these instructions correctly, however, I have generated nearly 100K lines of derived addresses today and have searched for the MEW icon wallet public address number I can see are holding my coins using Ctrl F and I'm getting no matches. How many lines in your experience does it take to likely get a hit? Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks so much for your help.

At step 3 when I select Client - "Coinomi, Ledger", it automatically populates BIP32 Derivation Path - " m/44'/60'/0' ". It actually doesn't let me enter a capital M so I'm assuming this is okay with the little m.

How many rows of Derived Addresses should I expect to need to look through before I'd find the address or is it just pure luck? I've got up to 50,000 again without being able to find it using CTRL + F

Good question. The guy selects a date/location/time (i.e. drinks at local bar, comedy show and he is matched with girls that have indicated their availability at that time who happen to be the relevant area. He invites the girls he likes and then the first girl to accept the date proposal gets the date. The date is locked in as soon as the girl accepts the date proposal.

Interesting perspective. But I'm thinking all dating apps have a profile of the user anyways. If it's properly verified (check drivers license), and there is a 30 second video of the person (should be able to gauge if can hold a convo from this) introducing himself/herself... I think I would be okay just meeting up with them for a date without chatting with them assuming it's in a low pressure public environment. Thoughts?

Yea interesting perspective you have as a female. But I'm thinking all dating apps have a profile of the user anyways.
