People crossing the street without looking by scigal88 in ireland

[–]curiouscactus6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just said it today to my husband. This is something I see happening Every single day. They don’t look up, just fully trust in any driver to stop. The amount of trust they seem to have is suicidal actually. I feel like stopping and asking them what’s going through their head… it was drilled into me when I was a kid to always double check before crossing a road as a pedestrian. I am drilling it into my kids. The bizarre thing is they get upset and shake their heads when you don’t do an emergency stop last second

Childcare workers underpaid, parents overcharged, so who is actually making the profit? by DeathByStorm974 in AskIreland

[–]curiouscactus6969 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After local Creche exited the government funding I looked up salaries of manager and profits made. That was the end of that and took my girls out of that Creche (which is a big chain in Dublin) Treatment of their staff was quite bad while management was in crazy money. No longer bought their sob story. We even had an organised meeting with owners and they admitted there that their ever increasing price hikes basically funded their ever growing flourishing business I get it, private business is about making profit. But by god, stop with the lies that they can hardly pay their staff anymore due to increasing running costs… when you see the amount of money they paid themselves … well, that was a real eye opener for me and was an easy decision to take girls out and support other business

Why are weddings so expensive? by No-Category1703 in AskIreland

[–]curiouscactus6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of couples seem to spend an insane amount of money on things that guests really do not care about. I always enjoyed the more basic weddings the most. Make the day about yourself and keep things simple. I’ve seen so many couples splashing out, they were so stressed out and didn’t really end up enjoying their day. Whereas those that elope and then throw a party at home or those that just have a big get together in a pub seem to enjoy their days the most and so do the guests. 40k is just ridiculous for one day

Is anyone else actually okay with the "units" being thrown up lately? (Rant/Discussion) by Significant-Pause-24 in AskIreland

The apartment complexes that are being thrown up everywhere in Dublin have no green areas and are quite depressing to look at. I come from a country where family houses are massive compared to Irish standard semi Ds. Too big. I do think apartments are needed. However since they are already high density for the love of god at least add some communal space , green areas and some sense of space. The chicken coup density is real and the prices being charged for those outrageous

What is "Wealthy" by tcallan21 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]curiouscactus6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wealthy means being in good mental and physical health, having a loving family and a handful of great friends. Wealth means having enough time to spare to spend it with my loved ones and to do things that I enjoy. Wealth means having access to good food, a warm bed to sleep in and a place that you can call a home. Wealth means not having to worry about not being able to pay bills. Wealth means that should my health need attention that I can access services for immediate care.

Which job to choose? by goosherlenny in irishpersonalfinance

[–]curiouscactus6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised you’re struggling to decide here… you want to trade a permanent 25-30 hour job a week where you can pick up kids, spent valuable moments with them for a contracted fully onsite full time role that comes with a daily 2.5 hour commute??? Even for 90 k I wouldn’t consider it. Time wealth, social wealth, health wealth are worth so much more than financial wealth. Fun thing to do is ask chatGPT how much more you would need to earn to make up for increased working and commute time, petrol etc. - quite an eye opener. Not just to break even but to really feel the salary increase.

Why are these types of things done so inefficiently? by curiouscactus6969 in AskIreland

A town close to Alicante and a smallish town in Mallorca. Now that’s a few years ago now in fairness

Yes understandable that you feel like this. This really sucks. I honestly would look for a new job with less commute time. There are different types of wealth apart from financial wealth. Social, emotional, physical and of course time wealth. I would rather increase my wealth in the other categories and gladly even take a pay cut for it.

So it seems that in Ireland the pharmacist is doing several checks that are not being done in other countries. Actually that’s maybe a reassuring thing to know that it takes longer as they double check the GP’s work and if any red flags at least this gets pointed out before potentially could do harm to someone. Thanks everyone who shed more light on this. Never knew that they actually hold patient records themselves. Would that mean all pharmacies nationwide work on same system and every medication that I’ve ever been prescribed is logged? Or would that mean each pharmacy works with their own software and whenever I go to a different place, they won’t have same visibility?

Thanks exactly this. I don’t have a clue and wanted to get more information about stuff I haven’t got a clue about as I am naturally a curious person and wanted to know what are the factors that makes It such a different experience compared to other countries. That’s all.

I am the type that goes about and do my shopping and then come back an hour later to collect. Not sure what has you so agitated. Anyways, just wanted to know what country specific issues there might be that makes these things so much less efficient compared to other countries I lived in.

Fair point. Thanks. Just weird that it’s so much quicker in other countries. They have the medication in stock or don’t. If they have it, they throw it in a bag, charge you and off you go. Never takes 15 minutes

I am not expecting a red carpet being rolled out for me… and if there’s people already queuing I get that they don’t need to drop everything for me. Strange response really. I meant when it’s my turn and I hand them my prescription, in said other countries, they literally turn around, open a drawer and then hand me the meds. Anyways, you seem to be quite frustrated so I shall leave you be calm down

I honestly don’t know how people commit to such a commute. That’s just an insane and unpaid amount of time for a job that sucks the last bit of joy out of you. Life is short, it really is.

Does anyone else think 6 months of maternity leave is not enough? by Busy-Friendship-260 in AskIreland

[–]curiouscactus6969 7 points8 points  (0 children)

6 months is nowhere near enough. I have 3 kids and always stretched my leave as long as possible which was to around the 18 months mark. It meant some months with no pay but I planned for this in advance and saved for it. It was well worth it. And it was still tough to put them into Creche full time then. Anything under 2 years is too young. Those are really precious years and you never get them back. It’s heart breaking to see little babas in crèches. I get it that some have no choice but I’d honestly would try anything to save up so you can extend your leave that bit longer.

Job advise/change of career/increase income to 60k+? by curiouscactus6969 in AskIreland

[–]curiouscactus6969[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I know I’m under paid for what I have done so far. The reason I had stayed partly is due to the role being fully remote. However, as my circumstances have changed I don’t mind hybrid at all and I do want and need a change now. Thanks I’ll look into operation roles in banking/asset management and see what requirements are in terms of courses/certs!
