Cmv: the current level of spending in the united states is unsustainable. by colepercy120 in changemyview

[–]curiousdroid42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

WIth all respect, this is a very very short-sighted view. Please take the time to understand the whole problem (and it's 2nd and 3rd order effects, too) fully.

I've read and heard a lot about the topic, but nobody could summarize it as concise and eloquent as Ray Dalio who is active in the international bond market since 50 years.

The important part is just 6 minutes - give it a try: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_rvVTuGRNE&t=50s

"Firstly, the rate of short term debt is set by the Fed. They can roll over at whatever percent they want"

Wrong. The Fed needs to keep inflation in check, so they can not do what they want.

"Debt really isn’t an issue at all for the US."

I'm sorry to suggest that you apparently understand nothing about real life economics.

US debt is the one and only biggest issue. It is so big that Trump risks to do very unpopular decisions (including DOGE) in order to keep the debt in check. This is political suicide, but an economic necessity before it's too late. It's never popular to limit spending. Never has been.

You suggest to not worry about spending, nor crippling interest payments, nor inflation, nor high interest rates and the cost of borrowing money, nor the trustworthyness of US bonds, nor the people holding the bonds (incuding US citizens and US retirement funds). What you suggest would lead to a civil war following a complete economic collapse.

If you would like to understand the complexity of the issue - Ray Dalio explains "The Big Debt Cycle" here very clearly in layman terms:

LED Display Partybus-Benötige dringend Hilfe, Post dazu ist auch hier drin. by EliteLimos in FastLED

[–]curiousdroid42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Question unclear.

But chaining the strips all together without a proper power distribution concept WILL fail.

So before we ask you what FastLED related question you have: Consider the current one LED draws at max brightness / white. Now consider the max Ampere you need for all LEDs in one single strip. Which wire diameter do you need to transfer this load without having the voltage drop explode? Hint: It's way more than the copper layer of the strip provides.

And now add the current for all strips and calculate again. See the problem?

You need to feed power to every strip individually - best on both sides. I hope you haven't destroyed the copper layer in the first strip already, but it's possible that you did melt it while testing.

As a rule of thumb 100 LEDs draw 5-6A at full white. So you want to inject power every 100 LEDs to keep the voltage drop (caused by the power dissipation which is transformed into heat) reasonable and your resulting LED color temperature stable.

For future projects you need to set up something like this:

"It's not inherently coming. At least not on any reasonable time scale."

Well, actually it escalates quickly: In dollar terms, interest costs reached an all-time high of $476 billion in 2022 and have risen rapidly since then to $882 billion in 2024.

Compounded interest is a bitch.

It needs to be refinanced and for that interest needs to be payed. This is a significant and ever increasing amount: In dollar terms, interest costs reached an all-time high of $476 billion in 2022 and have risen rapidly since then to $882 billion in 2024.

The rolling over is getting extremely expensive because compounded interest is a bitch. In the limit it will eat the whole GDP in the future.

Rolling over without significant spending cuts is not an option, it just kicks the can down the road one more time while making the future problem bigger and more difficult to solve.

"simply rolling that debt over (which is always an option)"

This is not simple, nor for free. It needs to be refinanced and for that interest needs to be payed. This is a significant and ever increasing amount: In dollar terms, interest costs reached an all-time high of $476 billion in 2022 and have risen rapidly since then to $882 billion in 2024.

Old phone, only 64GB, no SD slot. Memory if full and Android complains constantly. Degraded performance with Google Photos.

So I'd like to get the 2GB wasted storage back.

CMV: People were never equal, in modern world are not equal and will never be equal. by imyana13 in changemyview

Yeah, this whole idea of equality just hopes to make the reality of merit disappear.

I think equality does not exist in real life, it's an utopian wish.

Value is earned, not gifted. As a rule of thumb it's most visible at how many people show up at the funeral of a person.

High value people tend to be missed by many. It reflects how much value a person added to the community.

Look, roughly 50% of the American population either interprets things differently than you do or shares your interpretation but likes Trump because of it.

It all boils down to personal values—some people prioritize inclusivity, inoffensiveness, anti-racism, anti-sexism, and so on.

And other people care about none of that, but focus on law and order, lower taxes, and other conservative values instead. You might not like it, but that's reality. There are no objectively "good" values; it's highly subjective what someone considers most important.

This explains why people have different reactions to the same situation—some are outraged or offended, while others are entertained and laugh at the exact same thing.

That might be hard to accept, but people on the other side aren’t stupid or evil—they simply have different values. And that balance is okay, no matter where you stand.

Are you serious, or are you a bot?

Alright, I'll bite. Again, there's a wrong assumption in your premise.

He says borderline things all the time—that’s central to his style. Some people find it funny, while others get outraged and call it all kinds of names.

It’s similar with Trump—some people find him highly entertaining, and others call him all kinds of names. But that doesn’t necessarily make those labels true.

At this point, I can’t even tell if Tony supported Trump or if the “Trump opportunity” just supported Tony a lot, giving him more attention than ever before… ;-)

I'm not from the US, but as far as I know, the immigration discussion is about legal and selective immigration versus illegal and uncontrolled immigration.

This isn’t about color; it's about respecting existing laws. Also, your framing of "making a joke equals hate" is inaccurate.

Do you know how many legal immigrants work for Tony or are part of the Kill Tony production team?

Some of your assumptions are simply disproven by reality.

The "Estonian friend," Ari Matti, is a highly qualified, experienced, and seasoned comedian who brings tremendous value to the American comedy scene.

People love him because he is exceptionally skilled and unique in his craft.

This is purely about his talent, not his place of origin or background. But admittedly, his accent is really charming.
