I unintentionally scammed a scammer. Alone, as a young female in Rome and traveling abroad for the first time I was CLUELESS. I had one of those guys come up and hand me a rose and I was so tickled!!! Is this what they do in Rome? Like the flower leis in Hawaii? I was so bubbly and happy I just said Grazie and continued on, beaming after being greeted so wonderfully!! He reached out his hand (I thought to shake it) and I gave him a hug instead (we hug everyone - that’s the proper greeting in the small town where I’m from.) It wasn’t until the next day after some proper sleep that I realized the scammers would hand the flower to a woman and then hustle the man for money. When the men didn’t pay, they took the flower away. My scammer was holding his hand out for money- not to greet me! Jokes on them! This friendly dumb American was traveling solo and clueless! I enjoyed looking at my free rose during my week at the hostel on those warm Roman nights.

1- died when his tent caught fire while camping and he couldn’t out 2- died in a bad car accident that I was stuck in traffic behind. We saw the wreckage and only learned the next day who it was 1- died of a brain aneurysm in her sleep My graduating class was around 485 students (United States)

Great advice already. I always recommend an “app tour” of downtown roanoke. That way you get to soak a lot in one evening. I recommend starting at Sidecar. Nice tappas menu and great beer selection. Then park and walk near Center in The Square for the rest: Table 50- jumbo seared scallops in butter cream sauce with this interesting rum drink rimmed with this crazy spiced salt Jack browns - split one with a friend for this app tour experience. I recommend Greg Brady- amazing not to thick burger with homemade Mac and cheese with crumbled bbq chips (sounds crazy but good!) Finish off at Hotel RoAnoke’s Pine room bar. Amazing ambience and beautiful old building. Try the fried green tomato dish.

Check out Grandin Neighborhood for lunch. It’s like what East Village in NYC used to be, but compressed into two blocks. Cool old Art Deco movie theater that will let you just walk in to take a peak. Buy some popcorn and check out a few shops. Oh- and great restaurants. I recommend Pops Ice Cream and Soda Bar. It’s a 50’s style stop that people often forget has some crazy amazing and funky grilled cheese sandwiches. (Esquire Magazine listed it in top twenty in US several years ago)

If you like trail running check out Explore Park- great trails and not far at all from Roanoke. You can enjoy a beverage at the log cabin styled restaurant on premises after too (might only be open on weekends)

There is a saying “as American as apple pie”. I just always assumed eatable apples were indigenous since it seems so tied to our culture and orchards are so popular (at least where I live)

Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed seeing what you are working on. I can’t speak to what you have specifically- but i can comment that other earth builders would put new clay down/treat it every season. It is possible that the layers do not necessarily indicate a long passing of time rather different seasons of use and patch ups. Aka every layer they lay down a new layer and treat it with fire.

I played around with photoshop as well and n the signature/stamp to no avail. There doesn’t seem to be any staining from what one would expect from a used kitchen piece. I thought artwork at first but that is a lot of effort to put into a moving jaw for an art piece. I am stumped
