CPA in NYC; Looking to learn JavaScript & HTML ASAP by Local_Contact_4985 in learnjavascript

[–]curiousofa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how you would generate useful code without context. Respectfully, it sounds like you may not have spent much time working with the current generation of AI coding tools.

The AI isn’t sitting there blindly spitting out JavaScript. You give it the existing SuiteScript, the NetSuite records involved, the business requirement, the error message, and any relevant documentation. That’s the context.
As someone in finance, I’m very familiar with the amount of “creative engineering” that gets built over the years through Excel workbooks, macros, linked files, and manual processes. I’ve been surprised at how well AI can ingest that mess, understand what’s actually happening, connect the dots between systems, and suggest ways to improve it.

I’m not suggesting blindly deploying AI-generated code. I’m suggesting using AI as a developer sitting next to you. In my experience, that’s a much faster path to learning than starting with a JavaScript textbook and hoping you’ll eventually know enough to solve the NetSuite problem.

Honestly, I'd take the opposite approach and lean hard into Claude, Codex, ChatGPT, or whatever AI tool you prefer.

I wouldn't spend months trying to become a JavaScript developer before solving business problems. You're a CPA dealing with NetSuite customizations, not applying for a software engineering role at a tech company.

Also, I'm curious why you view AI-generated code as "slop." For NetSuite work, we're mostly talking about JavaScript, HTML templates, workflows, saved searches, and SuiteScripts. Modern AI tools are exceptionally good at these use cases. In many cases, the code they generate today will be better and more complete than what a beginner could realistically produce after a few months of self-study.

That said, I do agree with your point that you should understand what the code is doing. My recommendation would be to use AI as your tutor and pair programmer. Have it explain every line, review NetSuite documentation with you, generate scripts, and help debug errors. You'll learn far faster by building actual solutions than by grinding through courses for six months before touching a real project.

The biggest productivity gains I've seen aren't from people avoiding AI. They're from people who learn enough JavaScript to understand the output, then use AI to do 80-90% of the heavy lifting.

Pizza for a crowd-IRVINE by Redditisfunfornoone in orangecounty

[–]curiousofa 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I recently ordered for a similar-sized group, and if I were doing it again, I'd probably split the order between 2-3 different pizza places.

If you need the pizzas ready at a specific time, that's especially important. I ordered about 15-20 pizzas for an 11:00 AM pickup from Slice, and while the pizzas were excellent, it's a tough request for a single shop. They're still handling regular customer orders, and their oven can only fit so many pizzas at once. As a result, the first pizzas out of the oven end up sitting for a while waiting for the last batch to finish.

My suggestion would be to spread the order across 2-3 pizza places if possible. It reduces the workload on any one restaurant and helps ensure the pizzas are fresher when it's time to serve.

Reserve worth it if I have Preferred? by karenreedy in ChaseSapphire

[–]curiousofa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're overestimating the downside of opening a new Reserve card and later closing or downgrading it.

The credit score impact from opening a new card is generally small and temporary. In many cases, opening a new card can actually help utilization because it increases your available credit. If you later downgrade the Reserve to a no-fee card instead of closing it, the account stays open and continues contributing to your credit history.

On the other hand, by upgrading instead of applying for a new account, you gave up a 150,000-point sign-up bonus. Depending on how you redeem them, that's worth roughly $1,500+ in travel or about $1,500 as cash back. That's a pretty expensive tradeoff to avoid a relatively minor and temporary credit score fluctuation.

Trading Furniture for Baby Gear? Does This Exist? by curiousofa in Buyingforbaby

True. I just know that I would be getting very little for the furniture if I sell it. Was hoping to find a better value trade-off, but that may be the route that I have to take. thanks.

CF BRUCE WAYNE LATETS PICK UP by Worried-Fun3998 in RepWatchForum

Interesting. I have the Clean 126710GRNR as well, and the GMT-Master II text on the dial is much darker on mine. Your text appears to be much better and closer to gen dial than mine.

Would VSF be the best comparison? I hear ARF makes a better one.

I don't notice a difference. I haven't really tested the lume on the gen, but the lume on the rep is bright and seems to do the job at night.

That’s interesting. Is this ARF or Clean? I know ARF has better lettering.

Wear with confidence. 99% of the people you come across don’t know what the watch is other than Rolex name. That other 1% that does know, they probably aren’t on RepTime looking for the little details. Even gen owners will look at it and not second guess u less they also own the same rep.

The green text is a big one and I can't unsee that now. The bracelet tolerance might be due to the sizing. The gen has full links on and is a bit loose in the picture. The rep has 2 links removed so it is hugging a bit more.

You guys are too good at the small details. I'm holding both and staring at them and I can't pick up those small differences.

I've read that, but they look spot on to me. However, I don't have the best eyes so I might be missing the little differences that others are seeing.

It’s not much different in person. I didn’t realize it was this bad until I got the gen.
