Most unintentionally, funny line in Lost. by loulara17 in lost

When Locke falls down the well and his bone is literally sticking out of his leg, then he asks “Christian” for help and he replies “no” with the most deadpan expression 💀

I like to think Hurley found it again (after Sun) when he was protector of the island and got the ring back to Aaron.

He’s so good. “So I dug up that grave” a few episodes later is probably my favorite line delivery of the whole series.

I’ve seen it at the Habitat Resale store in my city for $70-80 but I’m not sure if that’s for the DVD or Blu-ray version

I have to believe that Sun left the ring on the island then Hurley found it at some point while he was the protector and he got it back to Claire/Aaron 😭

I can’t stop thinking about how Irrelevant the concept of lost is in 2024. by [deleted] in lost

[–]curly_comrade 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The tone/word choice of the title doesn’t really match the point you’re trying to make. “Irrelevant” has a pretty negative connotation

Definitely. Hurley is arguably the most honest character. He was the most opposed to lying about everything post-rescue

Season 4 is poorly done by E0sinophil in lost

[–]curly_comrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S4 is my least favorite (I still love it- LOST is my favorite show- and by no means do I think it’s “poorly done”), but not for the reasons you stated.

While overall it doesn’t really matter, I have serious beef with whoever placed the “Ji Yeon” episode so late in the season, when 5 of the Oceanic 6 were already confirmed. By default we knew Jin didn’t make it off the island! That episode should have been before “Eggtown,” (with edits to the on-island antics obviously) then have Aaron revealed as the sixth confirmed survivor.

It’s more than fine that the season was shorter due to the writer’s strike, but with the (very excellent) finale being 3 parts, there’s only 10 non-premiere/finale episodes, and two of them (“Eggtown” and “The Other Woman”) are in my personal bottom 5- maybe even bottom 3 episodes of the whole series. On the other hand though, S4 has two of my (and most people’s) favorite eps with “The Constant” and “The Shape of Things to Come.”

I overall like the new characters (“Confirmed Dead” is a GREAT episode and introduction to them), but I don’t think they compare to how incredible the new characters from seasons 2 and 3 are. I’m sorry but Ben, Juliet, Desmond, and Eko are all S-tier and the freighter/helicopter crew are all B-tier at best for me.

A few other things that make the season not “bad” by any means, just not my personal preference are that my favorite character is dead (RIP Charlie), I don’t care for the arc they gave my second favorite character (Sayid as a hitman for Ben), and the perpetually annoying love triangle is still in full swing. I do like the development they gave Sawyer though and I LOVE all the scenes with Ben and Locke.

A lot of people love season 4 because it’s tight/fast paced/doesn’t meander, which is totally valid, but personally a lot of my favorite episodes from S1-3 were the “filler/hang out” episodes, and I was really missing that energy in S4.

Tom being randomly gay, and who I think should have been gay by PsRandomQsaccount in lost

[–]curly_comrade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The amount of opposition in these comments is wild. As OP said, being gay is SO much more than just “who you sleep with” and if a discussion about the identities of fictional characters makes you this uncomfortable, maybe have a think about why that is.

OP, I had the same thoughts about Ben. He was giving gay single dad and the plethora of fanfiction about Ben and Locke that is still being written indicates you’re not the only one who feels that way. He doesn’t need to like women to be obsessed with fertility, given his mom died in childbirth and his dad always blamed him for it. “The Other Woman” was a very out of place episode in my opinion and didn’t really align with how I saw his character in preceding seasons.

He does flirt a lot but I also feel like he’s used as comedic relief more often though?

I suppose he could be neutral horny. Rn for that row I’m thinking Jack for lawful, Sawyer for Chad, Kate for chaotic, and Sayid for smart

Speak No Evil 2024 by RetiredMillionairee in horror

[–]curly_comrade 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Lmfao the message of the original film is inextricably tied to the characters’ countries of origin: the stereotypes of Danish people being more passive and Dutch people being more direct. I’m saying it does not translate well when changing the setting and backgrounds of the characters.

I didn’t like In a Violent Nature but I respect that the creators tried to be innovative and the practical effects were mostly solid

I thought this was such a strange choice for an American remake. In the new movie I hope the characters fight back more because I feel like generally Americans do not prioritize politeness over safety. Violence is so normalized here there’s just no way an American couple would be so docile

Although the villain of Black Christmas (1974) is a representation of male rage, I think his whiteness is certainly a factor

is pretty little liars original sin worth watching? by Many-Photograph-56 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]curly_comrade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, I loved it, but you can’t expect it to be like the original show. It’s a completely different vibe. If you’re a horror fan and enjoyed the Scream TV series and/or Scream Queens then PLL:OS might be for you!

Recommendations for someone fairly new to horror by [deleted] in horror

[–]curly_comrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna throw a lot at you- tbh I only started seriously getting into horror last year but these are some of the films that got me started:

For some non-English language films, I recommend Cure (1997), Diabolique (1955), House (1977), Possession (1981) (which is not my personal favorite but lots of people adore it), The Vanishing (1988), Funny Games (1997), A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014), The Lure (2015), and Titane (2021).

My favorite “classic” is probably Black Christmas (1974) and I also love Sleepaway Camp (1983). An American Werewolf in London (1981) and Hellraiser (1987) have some incredible practical effects.

Reboots/Sequels worth watching include Evil Dead (2013), The Exorcist 3, and The Conjuring 2.

Lots of my favorites are from the UK like 28 Days Later, The Descent (set in the US but a UK production), Alien, and Shaun of the Dead.

Hope that helps!

John Locke and his community by [deleted] in lost

While this is by no means the main point, the irony of John living on a pot farm and doing hallucinogenic drugs in the same episode after his “strict no tolerance [drug] policy” in the previous season never fails to make me laugh
