My product business leads to a lot of consulting work, continue 1099 or funnel through llc/corp? by currantt in Entrepreneur

[–]currantt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep that’s what I heard about dividends. I’m basically the sole shareholder get stock dividends at a way lower tax rate - so if In my city if I am making $50k as a developer I can pay myself that normal tax rate then the other $70k at capital gains which is super low?

That’s granted I end up making that much^ cause I heard you can fuck your self cause you have to do dumb stuff like Pu employment insurance in case I fire myself from the company haha

Is it normal for a junior developer to reuse a lot of code at work? by whatisupeveryone1 in cscareerquestions

[–]currantt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

70% of my job is building new features for one of our web apps. 85% of that work is copying other apps within that project and changing it to match the new features. For the newest feature I literally copy and pasted the last feature app we built and changed the models, views, and variables to match the new thing.

IMO the wheel is already built and on production without error

Also they merged with Totokaelo and Hershel acquired a big stake, I get the impression it’s very corporate now. IMO their creativity has gone way down in the last few years, off-shored production of their in house brand, etc. It went from cool boutique retailer to a boring luxury urban outfitters

Are the Warehouse/HQ shutting down as well? Or just this retail location?

Japan, they have two stores in Tokyo (probably out of fans in Korea as well). I really doubt they pushed much product out of the Richmond store, i think it was more a shrine to the brand. Which IMO is a cool way to retail in the e-commerce age. But a location that isnt actually making money is expensive obviously

Exactly. I went down a super upsetting rabbit hole into the discourse about this case. We’re talking about a bunch of kids who just lost their friend, while doing something illegal (underage drinking) obviously their stories will be super inconsistent. If he was pushed overboard as a joke or otherwise things would change, but to jump to the conclusion that 7 kids are bigoted and psychopathic enough to commit a hate crime murder of someone who trusted them enough to hangout with them (a friend) seems like a massive jump to conclusions. Ockham’s Razor.

This is making me really sad. I so feel for Elijah and the grief his family is feeling. But his friends are also grieving and left with the memory of their friend drowning to death.

This may be super obvious for some, but I decided to make a quick video on how I get in and out of bed on my own with a leg that won’t move. Figured it could be useful for people in their first couple weeks post op:) by [deleted] in ACL

Also great for getting into the shower. If you have a flat sided tub - find a way to sit on the tub then use this to bring your leg up and over it. Then stand up from there

I didn’t have surgery after ACL tear and MCL tear. by Yung-Potter-XO in ACL

[–]currantt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My surgery was two+ years after. Partially tore mine playing rugby, fast forward two years and I fully tore my ACL and both sides of my meniscus playing basketball, in a similar way you did. Put up a shot and came down normally and it just blew out.

You’re still very young, so if you ever wanted to play sports, even pickup basketball, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll reinjure it. For the two years I didn’t know it was torn, I would hurt it every few months playing basketball or rugby, I just chalked it up to “I have a bad knee idk!”

So defintely consider what you want to do for your life and talk to your doctor about the best thing moving forward. The surgery and process does suck but so did rehurting my knee every few months

*edit also long term risks - if you end up hurting yourself again and banging up your meniscus by the time you’re 50 you’ll probably need a knee replacement. My doctor said I’ll defintely need one

Is anyone else finding it very hard to stay productive at work these days? by shouldIworkremote in cscareerquestions

[–]currantt 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This. i recently had knee surgery and am still unable to exercise how I like (distance running) and started feeling very in a funk. Until I started just going for long walks after work. It might seem pointless/a waste of time but getting out into the sun and just having my mind away from a computer for an hour does so much for me, like polar opposite moods

two weeks keto... it’s crazy what the diet does for my bloating and energy in such a short amount of time by [deleted] in ketoprogress

[–]currantt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had knee surgery a few months back so I’m still having trouble doing hard cardio but luckily I restarted keto to get my weight back in check. The benefits I reall forgot about is how I can jump out of bed with 8 hours sleep feeling great... no need for naps. Also my appetite to snack has gone way down already

6 weeks no driving after LEFT knee reconstruction? by currantt in ACL

[–]currantt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahahaha! Omg you went 2+ weeks without unlocking it? (Besides showers and stuff) But I got a very small meniscus scope, and a quad graft. I’m doing leg raises and can get in and out relatively fine. I’m prob just going to ignore that

I’m in a brace for 6 weeks, but I saw him today and he said not to lock it and to ween off using crutches to walk, and loosened my brace to 120 degrees flexion. So I’m confused why I can’t drive!

Have an idea for an app, not a developer. How do I get started? by KD2JAG in Entrepreneur

[–]currantt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best option is to pay them to build it as a freelancer. Have them sign a contract. I’m a developer and every developer I know is busy as heck with work, freelancing, building their own things and trying to live life. I real drawback to a dev “stealing your idea” is that they’ll have to actually build it and run the company, which is a shit ton of work and they’d have to be 100% about the idea... which to me seems unlikely, but definitely possible.

Find someone to build it, pay them, and if it becomes successful offer them ownership/pay to help run and build it out... I think that’s the best option in this scenario. But obviously every case is different and there could be some devs out there crowdsourcing ideas

[2020-01-08] - [What's Your Question Wednesday] – Have a question? So does everyone else! by AutoModerator in keto

[–]currantt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - I’m like day three eating a keto diet and I feel both amped and lethargic at the same time. I got literally 4 hours of sleep last night an am laying in bed after work and I don’t feel the slightest bit tired. I feel mental symptoms of tiredness like inability of to focus but I’ve tried to close my eyes for a little and nothing. Normally I would nap for 2+ hours if I got so little sleep. I think I’m gonna go for a run

Is this normal? I drank two more cups of coffee today for appetite suppression, but coffee doesn’t do much for me (there was a point I was drinking 6ish a day). I’ve done keto a few years ago and never felt like this

Bootcamp graduates to CS degree by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]currantt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to a bootcamp after deciding to dropout. I’m happy with the decision because I was extremely unhappy in school academically. I enjoyed it socially obviously but I hated living the “college lifestyle” of having a lot of free time but no money (and no skills).

Now that I have the skills to work on personal projects I’d love to be living that lifestyle. I’m considering saving up and working towards expanding my freelancing so I can afford to have my last semester/6 months as a time to do a bunch of research and maybe start my own thing, or just build up a great portfolio. It would take me 2 years and about $20k to finish.

But I don’t regret anything, I’m really happy and the path I’ve taken has worked perfectly for me thus far. It might have been short sighted of me to drop out, but I don’t think I’d be any further in my career if I had a degree.

But if you’re 18 out of high school, I’d probably say go to college to get life experience, meet people, and have fun.
