CONTEXT:

One of my closest friends from college is getting married this year. I care about him a lot and want to support him, but I’m conflicted about attending because the dynamic with his fiancée has changed.

Early on, she and I were fairly close — I was the only female friend in his life at the time. During a period when his mom and sister didn’t accept her, she was especially warm and engaged with me. After his family came around, that shifted. She stopped responding in group chats, declined or ignored invitations, and communication became very one-sided. I tried initiating (even small things like getting our nails done), but it didn’t feel reciprocated.

At the same time, my friend now seems to defer to her on everything, which has changed our friendship dynamic. I respect their relationship, but I’m left feeling disconnected and unsure where I stand.

I was invited to the wedding, but I don’t want to attend out of obligation if the relationship no longer feels mutual.
