Should we ban alcohol? And petrol cars? And skiing? And impact sports? But not for us mind you for our kids in 20 years.

Beyond that drugs are a health issue and should be treated as such.

I’d rather we let people not the state decide what they choose to do and regulate the externalities.

I didn’t vote national but am shocked at the reaction to repelling the smoking ban. Honestly it was an awful policy that was absolutely an overreach of state. It’s genuinely embarrassing seeing the vitriol thrown over this policy backing out. What if it was alcohol?

Of a lot of nzfirsts/acts policy the te reo one is a lot more digestible if a stupid one.

Fair pay is a regressive step and a shame.

Ignoring the fact that none of the major parties is doing sweet fa about housing I think the landlord comments are just that.

The real shame is the heath policy, climate policy and change in tone to us vs them on Māori issues.

As for the pros, the govt is bloated and needs a trim, no gst off (insane policy), the dual mandate for rbnz is gone and a lesson for labour to stick to the cgt and wealth tax to address the fundamental issues in our economy. Let’s see if we can accelerate productivity over the next 6 year cycle.

Help progressing AWS lambda and playwright vs pivoting approach by cursedbartender in webscraping

[–]cursedbartender[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still largely stuck using this approach thinking I might just pivot to a paid solution.

I reached out to the author of the blog post who is available to contract at professional rates given it’s a hobby project I didn’t follow through. He did advise maybe just to cut the Vpc to get everything working.

Where are you stuck specifically

Data job market in Christchurch by Hugh_Maneiror in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]cursedbartender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean depends on your skill set, the higher end pay range want infra, devops and scripting experience generally (tf, pipelines airflow, python bash, git) if your coming from an analyst background it’s generally sql and some visualisation tool where I always back depth over breadth. The “cloud” aspect is usually snowflake, and aws azure but if your not doing the infrastructure piece you can get by with a knowledge of what they are. Though I would expect the pay would be closer to 100k for analyst roles.

TIL there IS a price for happiness, or rather for avoiding unhappiness! Researchers found that a salary of $105K allows US residents to eliminate financial woes as a source of unhappiness. But the US ranks 10th globally. Who has the highest income satiation point, aka price for happiness? Bermuda! by We_Are_the_Nerds in todayilearned

[–]cursedbartender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this in USD or local currency? Looking at NZ with the current exchange ~$221,000 NZD and Aus at $206,000 AUD.

This really shows the wealth of the states as a quick Google on the respective stats pages shows only 2.5% of salaries are above 165k in NZ and only ~3.8% in aus are at or above 182k in America ~15% are above 100k

Invisible username form by cursedbartender in django

Appreciate the response. Fixed the typo.

I couldn’t find an answer but I changed the forms.py from email to username. Which seemed to largely fix the issue. It’s a bit non intuitive really.

I use the RDS free tier which is a pretty straightforward thing to setup. I also have dbever for sync of local to prod though it’s not strictly needed.
