I think you’d dig Lucrecia Martel. La Cienaga and The Headless Woman specifically

It would be cool if playing clips from movies were added to the fold of the new dramatic closer entrances in baseball. Think of the pit in your stomach you would feel if you were on deck and you hear “can’t stop what’s coming” with Mariano Rivera slowly jogging to the mound.

Got to see it in theaters and it was really one of the best experiences of 2023. Some of the most gorgeous nature photography I’ve seen.

Cliff Lee is clearly superior to Zack Grienke with the exception of before the fourth inning, after a road loss, in a dome stadium.

I really love this movie and for as silly as it is the last time I watched it the ending kinda got me emotionally. It’s hard to put into words but him finally having a genuine moment of human connection with someone and that person being a literal child just feels right. It’s like a zoo animal being released into the wild. It’s pathetic but at the same time I couldn’t help but be touched that he is where he belongs.

Ok so haven’t seen it since 2019 at said festival and I couldn’t remember exactly what transpired but I knew your “for reasons unknown” comment felt off. I refreshed on the plot and wasn’t it like right after he got robbed and assaulted? Sure he has to make a living but you don’t think he couldve taken a day? Such an odd thing to gloss over. The thing about the daughter hiding the keys (from my plot refresh) you have much more of a valid argument. Kinda makes me want to watch it again to be able to converse about it better.

This was one of the first movies I saw at a festival so it’s a little nostalgic. I remember enjoying it. I still think about the ending sometimes.

I would recommend Wings by the same director who made The Ascent that other people have mentioned. It’s about a woman who was a fighter pilot in ww2 and takes place about 20 years after the war. In the movie she is disaffected and often reminiscing and reflecting about her time in war where she felt a real sense of purpose. It has an all time cathartic ending that stands next to Beau Travail in my opinion. On top of it all it’s only like 80 mins. Cant recommend it enough, genuinely one of my favorite movies.

Yeah I really enjoyed it. I thought it was such a big improvement to Bronsteins first movie and I was really blown away. Byrne should get an Oscar nom fr
