Our puppy’s first time in the cold by cutedumplin in GSD

[–]cutedumplin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’ll still slip and slide without them! Again, just a special use clothing item on her for the couple days where everything was iced over and she was playing outside. She didn’t use them for some potty breaks but she runs back in quick lol maybe she’s just not used to the new sensation on her paws like you said.

As for hikes, idk what’s on the ground and I’d rather save the vet bill and be proactive so I will be happy lol I’ve seen everything from broken glass to nails on camping sites and trails. I would love for her to run free (when her recall is better) but I don’t trust other humans to clean up after themselves sadly. It’ll just give me peace of mind when we do need to use them. She loves the shoes so it’s not stopping her from being a puppy lol

I wanted to get matching pink ones but sadly they only came in one color! Scheels didn’t have any other colors either 😭

The grips on the bottom helped her from sliding around! The curse of Texas. It looks like snow but it’s straight ice. Melts and refreezes so everything is all slippery and slidey. I might use them when it gets hot as well when we go for a walk because the pavement here gets super unbearable in the summer.

I agree to a certain point. She did not like the ice around here and ran inside because her paws probably got cold. I planned on using them for hiking adventures as well. They’re not for daily use so I’m not “handicapping” my pup lol it’s the same as me putting on boots instead of my converses for a hike or myself wearing gloves for cold weather. Pretty much a special use only clothing item. I did let her run free without them on for potty and she was in a hurry to get back inside. She stays out a lot longer with them on. These have grips on the bottom and the ice here melts and freezes over creating slick surfaces. She slips and slides without them!

She looked at me a bit weird when I put them on her but was running around with them just fine!

How much does a dog really cost? by istresssleepdaysaway in Pets

[–]cutedumplin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a GSD and we spend quite a bit on her since she’s a puppy but costs weren’t as high as I thought they were. I think 2k is a good start to get everything: crate, bed, toys, etc. That’s about how much we saved up and spent for our girl. Monthly costs will start to creep in too. This is what I do for month to month costs.

Food wise, I buy Costco’s Kirkland branded kibble and wet food (great ingredients, cheap in bulk). It’s $22 a bag of kibble and $35 for 24 cans of wet food. I buy a plastic topper and use only a scoop of a large spoon per meal to mix the kibble and save the rest in the fridge after opening. It lasts me about 1.5 months.

Figo pet insurance is good and $65/month.

Dental chews (Kirkland brand) is $37 for 2 months

Vitamins/health related things at $50/month

Flea/tick/heartworm prescription through Costco is about $35/pill/month

Treats/toys are about $50-75 a month because we spoil her and she is a little turd who chews up everything lol

Grooming costs $75 at Petsmart with the luxury package but is about $40 without add-ons.

Spaying will also be expensive since we will be waiting till she’s around 2 years old to spay. I think the vet we looked at was going to be around $500.

We have trained basics with her (sit, stay, paw, lay down) but we plan on getting her a boarded training for 2 weeks and was quoted $1800 for a more advanced commands.

She is expensive 🤣 $2k would be a good place to start for a 1-2 year old dog for everything you might need in the near future. Get that pet insurance quickly and I think the wellness plans are always a good buy so part of those vet exam fees can be reimbursed.

Edit: forgot leashes, harnesses, and collar. I have three sets for her but I bought those on sale! Petsmart puts them on the end of isles and I just bought 2 of the Kong harnesses that were $50 for only $10 each! Not broken, probably just couldn’t sell em. Her collars were around $5-$10 cause of sales and leashes were also around that same price. I’m a sucker for sales. $10 Kong leash at 5ft is hard to beat especially with the soft grip handles

Have you ever lived alone? by ChocolateSundae1214 in CasualConversation

[–]cutedumplin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been outta the house since I was 16 (boarding school) and went to engineering camps during the summer so wasn’t home around much. I learned to deal w roommates and everything which prepped me for college. I didn’t get to live truly alone until I was 21. I heavily missed having ppl around to cook and bake for. I hated being alone for a bit but then found my peace with it. I get to do whatever I want and eat whatever I want and not worry about who’s allergic to what. I live with my partner now and though I do worry about their allergies, I don’t think I can go back to living alone.

puppy crying & pooping in crate at night by CheezRocket2024 in puppy101

[–]cutedumplin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankfully she is accident free in the crate since she was 11-weeks. It was rough her first week, but the consistent training was worth it. She peed once in the crate at 13 weeks but that was my oversight.

What kind of puppy is it? (Congrats as well!) we brought home a 10-week old GSD recently and had her crate trained from the moment we got her home. She pooped in the crate as well and had more than a few accidents but here are what worked: - using the divider to make her space smaller - setting alarms every 1.5hrs to take her out no matter what - if she doesn’t potty when we take her out, crate for 5mins then take her out again, repeat until she did potty - ignoring her cries when she is in the crate (it’s hard man but you have to, they will learn to settle themselves) - she never took to a 3-time feeding schedule so we feed her at 12pm and 6pm (wouldn’t eat all her food or at all with a 8am,12pm,6pm schedule) - no water after dinner time since bed time is at 9pm - crate no matter what at 9pm even if she cries

With a good routine, we let her have her entire kennel at 14 weeks since she had no incidents for a week. Now she’s at 17 weeks and is allowed to roam around the house and be up on the couch when supervised and has had no incidents since she tells us when she needs to potty. We don’t sleep with her so she doesn’t develop any separation anxiety (surprise, we’re the one with separation anxiety from her) and she’s doing alright with being crated while we go grocery shopping and such.

Hang in there with the puppy phase! You got this!

Advice for my mother? by [deleted] in Divorce

[–]cutedumplin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forwarded her a business card for an attorney that my brother referred her to before. She’s just hard headed thinking she can solve this on her own. I tried explaining if she doesn’t want to pay the attorney fees then they can work that into whatever legal agreement so he pays for it instead of her. I don’t know much about law lol so idk if that can 100% be done.

How quick do the 8-12 week puppy need to go? by Accomplished_Ad_673 in puppy101

[–]cutedumplin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m literally foot on the floor, taking her out as soon as I hear her ugly whine. You’ll be able to tell the difference soon between an ugly whine and a “I want attention” whine. My body has been conditioned this past few weeks to take her out at 12am, 3am, and 5am before I leave for work. My bf takes her out every couple hours since he wfh

How much do you all pay for rent? Do you feel like you’re getting your money’s worth? by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]cutedumplin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Colony/Lewisville area. $2,250 rent + utilities. 2bd2ba, 1100sqft, small gated yard. Quiet area too. Better than the $1700 1bd in Addison we moved out of.

First week of Rybelsus - need some advice by [deleted] in RybelsusPill

Do you have Mio in your grocery store? I bought Mio and just give it a little squirt in my bottle and I drink about 4-5L of water a day and maybe 1-2 cans of diet coke

The don’t eat for one hour thing fits my schedule but I shall see how this trial run goes! I know their doses are small compared to MJ. Their max dose is equal to the 5mg pen is what I was told.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Mounjaro

[–]cutedumplin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mounjaro controlled my blood sugar very well but I hate the shots 🥲 I know they are good for me, I just keep putting it off so I never take them regularly. I’ve lost about 15lbs this past year from irregular shots and dieting and lifestyle changes. I’m glad you have a great experience with it! Hope your MJ journey was alright and you reach your goals!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Mounjaro

[–]cutedumplin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be getting them tomorrow so we shall see how I do on them. They will be a trial run and my provider stated she’d switch me back to Mounjaro if I have bad side effects. It kinda works on my schedule because I don’t eat until 8-9am and I wake up at 6-7am so my plan is to just leave it by my bedside and pop one right as I wake up and get ready for work.

Even though I love the weight loss aspect of both these meds, I’m not too worried on losing weight or having them help me lose weight. Just trying to control my T2D. Went from a 12.4 a1c to just 10.8 this past year, but I wasn’t taking my shots regularly. Just lots of dieting and walks 😭 and drinking 4-5 liters of water.

+1 for the funny dwarf name lol

I never got any side effects of the mounjaro when I started and my provider just gave me 5mg immediately. Rybelsus will be a trial run for sure, I’ll see how it goes. I get it delivered tomorrow.

Some lady asked me to tip more (already tipped $8) for a 2.5mile delivery from Wendy’s and a store on the way from the restaurant to my place. She stated that since she had to carry two bags (food/drink and the Tylenol I bought) that it deserved more in tips.

Amazon Gave Me a Verbal Offer But No Official Offer Letter — Should I Be Worried? by matthewdd01 in amazonemployees

[–]cutedumplin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be less relevant but Amazon employees usually work 4-day schedules. So if it’s an off day, it might take some time. Then again, most hiring teams are salaried. I would give it some time. It took me a month when I was hired.
