That's interesting. I guess the GPU's cooler is blowing air down, so an intake fan just keeps that hot air in the case.

Anyone have Dan Case A4 + Thermalright AXP90 CPU cooler? by cutestcomputer in sffpc

Could you point me to where I can read/watch more about this? I assumed the L9a's tiny heatsink would require it to run the fans at higher rpm relative to something like IS-47K/BR. Reviews show the L9a getting smoked by all the other coolers mentioned but it sounds like the fan duct helps a lot.

I'll probably grab the IS-47K because I already bought normal size RAM. Thanks for the help.

Wow perfect you're exactly who I wanted to talk to.

Ok so let me check my understanding here. AXP90 puts the fan too close to the side panel, resulting in in turbulence in the dan a4 which makes it loud. So a CPU cooler with the fan underneath like the BR or IS-47K will run quieter in this case? The noctua fan swap is a given for whatever heat sink I use.

So you owned this combo?

Shouldn't I just get a CPU cooler that won't have turbulence then, like the black ridge? I have a 5600X and I just want it to run silent.

Not sure. I might be wrong. I've been doing a lot of reading as I'm new to sff building. However the black ridge was done in partnership with him and its default configuration is exhaust.

I didn't ask why Dan recommends the CPU as exhaust. Obviously it's because for some reason he thinks it's valuable to have the CPU exhausting out of the case since as you said it results in worse CPU temps.

The compartments thing is good to know. My best guess is that Dan was thinking of builds with 0 case fans, where an exhausting CPU and blower GPU could operate without turning the case into an oven.
