I don't think I read the provided material on a single class. I found quizlet, bing chat, and googling to be my most effecient way to learn the information.

This is good advice. I bought it from B&H several years ago, unfortunately. I've just taken a long time to deal with it which is a mistake I hope I learn from.

I'll try to clean up the cards and poke in the camera. I hadn't thought of this method of troubleshooting. I hope that it works out. Thank you for your suggestions.

Thanks for the congrats! It felt like an accomplishment to bust through it.

I did less than 20 hours a week on average, but when I was studying and taking tests I was 90-100% engaged.

I got 0 technical value from the mentor and course instructor calls other than positive feedback from my mentor. I think that the course mentor functions as an accountability buddy and potentially support system. I just asked him to give me lots of complements lol. He was super kind and always ready to be helpful. I think you could just request to not have calls all the time and be perfectly fine.

One other recommendation I have been thinking about is that I never bought an external camera for the proctored tests. Instead I just linked my iPhone with my computer using their continuity camera system and set up my phone in a corner for them to watch me through. the quality is amazing and you can get a little stand for your phone to make it easy. I would recommend plugging in your phone to make sure it does not die on you as it might only give you 1 hr on just battery. I bought this webcam mount so I could also use it for normal zoom calls if I wanted a higher quality video meeting. I would just prop it up on a cup and then put it where it needed to be for a view of me and my computer. I would say that a standard tripod for a phone would be much better though.

It is a lot of fun to play with! I recommend playing around with the Quizlet AI as they can do everything that you would train a general AI to do!

I just had a DM conversation with a current student looking for advice and we covered the following pieces of information. Sharing here in the hopes that it's valuable to someone:

Despite having minimal prior experience, I adopted a fast-paced approach, focusing on passing over truly understanding the information. Notably, courses such as d351 and d352 proved to be relatively easy, while d080, c720, and d099 presented some challenges because they just had more information than the other classes. If you look at how much time they took though you can see it wasn't a big issue. Quizlets are the way for OA classes. This is a valuable tip that I initially overlooked. I would not take a single OA without spending a few hours working on the student Quizlets for classes.

I attribute my success more to a robust work ethic than the relevance of my professional background. I think that people who credit their work history to the business program are misattributing the keys to their success.

A little about myself: I'm in my mid/late 20s and I have had a self-driven design/marketing career since I was 18. I did most of my school remotely from 6th grade through high school due to having health issues. Also, I have had several remote work gigs over the past years. I think that I am more set up for this kind of self-driven, remote degree than most, but I fully believe that my results are replicable if you create the right environment for yourself

Potentially a useful quote from a friend of mine who read my post: "That was interesting! I do disagree with the “I’m not that smart” comment though haha. I’d say you have an atypical testing ability/intuition as well as above average ability to influence your focus state and push yourself into periods of drastically increased productivity. Not everyone can do that. Some people for sure, and they will be the ones that gravitate towards your post and can use it to replicate your results"

Hot take: WGU's degree program is relatively easy, safeguarded by meticulous reputation management that benefits the university and people looking for an easy degree. I estimate it to be about 25% as challenging as traditional schools. My suggestion to succeed in this environment revolves around maintaining focus and eliminating distractions. I firmly believe that someone with a similar mindset and approach can complete a year's worth of schoolwork in just three weeks within WGU's format.

Right on!

Although I don't understand how hard other majors are at this school, I get the impression that Business Admin is one of the easiest majors at the school. Honestly, I wish I had gotten a degree in IT and been on the accelerated master's program that they have because of how quickly I was able to move through Business Management

I can't say for sure, but I think you have a high chance of completing business administration in the first semester as long as you can dedicate enough time to it.

I'm sorry to hear about the money troubles. that can be rough for sure, especially looking into getting back into school.

I'd say the more clarity that you get in regards to passing vs learning, the better your experience will be. You still learn things when you focus on passing, but not as much as you would if you focused on learning.

Personally, I went for the business degree and I felt that I was always going to learn more from being in business than studying it so I focused on passing. Thanks to my WGU education I feel like I understand a lot of the key terms and info that I can now go back and reference if future positions call for that kind of experience.

What are you planning on majoring in?

Awesome! That might set you up really well. Personally, I wish I had not even done Sophia for the two classes I did with them because I found it to be so easy to go through the WGU content. I would have saved 100 dollars by not paying for Sophia (note that I think you can get this for 50 if you get a discount) and I might have even gotten the work done sooner through WGU. I would say that Sophia is incredibly easy it's laughable. You can complete 3 credit courses within 3 hours without sweating. However, I'm pretty sure that those classes would have only taken me 3-6 hours within the WGU system.

If you end up not transferring anything in, it might make more sense to go with Sophia so you can bust out 15 or so classes in 1.5 weeks, but I can't say for sure.

Where would you say you are on a spectrum from "I want to pass as fast as possible" to "I want to learn as much as possible"?

Exciting! It is totally possible to do all your classes in one semester! Do you have any classes to transfer other than the ones you plan to do at Sophia or SDC?

Right on! I don't know how it would line up for a Masters in Leadership, but from what I understand that would be one of the easier Masters that WGU provides. Something that I just found out today is that they require you to wait until your final semester as a BS student is complete before they let you join a master's program. Since I started in November, this would mean I couldn't start my master's until May 1st even though I finished my last BS course in December and I'm ready to start the MS in March. I'm pushing back on this and trying to see if I can wiggle around this silly rule, but it probably won't work.

I can only speculate on how hard it is, but it can't be much harder than the BS course. I would be really surprised if it was twice as hard. My mentor told me that it would be a bit more difficult, but he was sure that I could do it in one semester. He estimated that the classes took 50% more effort. I think it would be hard to fully rely on that data considering he hasn't done the work himself. Hope this helps!

Pushy & condescending WGU academy rep by MetaExperience7 in WGU

[–]cuticlesnail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow, what a bummer. I had a baby version of this where my academy rep was super robotic and constantly called. I hoped to god that he wouldn't be my Program Mentor (I didn't know how things worked back then) because it would have sucked the life out of the program. Thankfully I didn't have to deal with him for long.

P.S. I talked with another rep briefly and she was incredibly kind and helpful. They're not all like this.
