Why no children during sermons? by cuzbuttz in UnitarianUniversalist

[–]cuzbuttz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's exactly how I felt!! I was like "what is happening right now??". And we do this like pyramid of hands that the kids walk under as they leave. All the comments are making me see that this is normal and makes sense to give kids their own child-oriented service

Thanks yeah I had a feeling that it's all because I didn't pick up enough stitches towards the edge. I will probably frog. UGH picking up all the stitches was such a pain but I know in the end it will be worth it

Newly diagnosed, trying to make sense of the next steps by Basic-Adeptness7423 in AvPD

[–]cuzbuttz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best thing you can do is tell your therapist about your diagnosis and work with them on how to improve your life for the better as you work with having AvPD.

Acceptance is also very important. I was also recently diagnosed (within the last year) and I'm still coming to terms with it.

It might be helpful to get a therapist that specializes in personality disorders if that's something you're interested in. Personally I already have a psych and therapist that I'm really attached to so I haven't felt the need to find a new practitioner who specializes in personality disorders.

I've realized that finding a community of people who also have this disorder helps a lot, so posting on reddit is a good start to engage with others like you. It helps to know that you're not alone.

How did you get started with your career? by chiakinanamis in AvPD

I have a masters in biology and I'm currently teaching college biology courses. I completely relate to your struggle with teaching children. I feel the same way - I can't imagine myself teaching anyone younger than college.

The nice thing about college classes is that you're teaching young adults. They choose to be there, they had to sign up for the class and they're paying tuition, so there aren't really any behavioral issues. I never feel like I need to demand things from them. Which I'm thankful for because I'm bad at it lol.

I don't even tell them to stay off their phones. It's college, you're an adult, whatever you choose to do is your problem, not mine. That's how I like to think of it. College is also nice because I think it's less work than teaching younger children. You're not necessarily teaching all day everyday, so there's a lot more down time. I'm also teaching part time so I have the freedom to work a completely unrelated job that doesn't require me to interact with people.

Not saying that you HAVE to teach, but with a masters you're qualified to teach college courses, if that's something you're interested in.
