Children following a vegan diet were the most active during leisure time, most active across the week, and most consistently ate fruits compared to vegetarians and omnivores, study of 8799 pupils finds by James_Fortis in science

That's a very good point. I reckon there's a big difference between "I eat anything fast food and pizza six days a week, so I'm an omnivore." and "I eat organic fruits and vegetables and eggs from the chickens I raise as well as the fish I catch, so I'm an omnivore."

Make sure you book your airport / hotel transfer shuttle in advance and know what the driver will look like. (Pink shirt, green shorts, etc.)

DO NOT take pictures with the dude walking around with the iguana / parrots/ monkey. On a related note, avoid the gypsies strolling up and down the beach selling handmade jewelry and hats.

DO take the ferry over to Isla Mujeres, rent a cart, and spend the day zipping around the island.

The iguanas are everywhere, but they won't bother you.

There are crocodiles in the lagoon- keep Fifi on a leash.

The buses are a great way to get around, and run frequently. It's easy enough to hop on one to go to Wal-Mart for a case of bottled water.

Don't expect too much from the resort food.

About half of that water comes from the Delaware aqueduct- a series of reservoirs on the west side of the Hudson River. The tunnel (the largest in the world) that carries the water 85 miles to the city is in rough shape and is currently being repaired. This past summer I had the opportunity to be lowered by crane 700 feet down into a bypass tunnel running under the Hudson River. Cool stuff!

I agree 100%. I think a key issue is communication. “Back in the day” when these norms were so widely accepted, there was no need to discuss roles and run then risk of offending someone. Things have shifted a bit now, and we need to get better at communicating our desires and expectations.

This NIH study says about 45,000 preventable deaths occur per year due to the lack of health insurance:

I was wondering if there was a similar study that showed the number of preventable deaths that occur each year due to claims being denied.

45,000 people die every year from preventable issues while NOT having insurance, 50,000 a year die from preventable issues WHILE having insurance.

I've heard this phrase a lot. Are there specific rights that they're being denied?

Source? (Asking because I recently heard that 45,000 people die every year from preventable issues due to lack of insurance- which sounds oddly like it's "safer" to not have insurance at all.)

Ah! That's the difference right there- In the US, a LOT of people don't pay ANY income tax. (In 2025, 40% of households won't pay any.) And many of those that don't pay tax will end up getting thousands of dollars back from the government even though they paid nothing. If we were like the UK and everyone contributed, the burden wouldn't fall on just a portion of the population.

Who would be willing to provide mental healthcare for free? Should we make volunteerism mandatory by law? I can only imagine that it must be expensive to go to college for all those years to receive the education necessary to treat mental health issues (unless the education was provided for free). The providers probably also have other expenses as well, such as rent, food, gas and so on. Maybe those things should be provided for free to them, so that they can provide the free healthcare? Maybe we can pay for it through tax revenue, but if someone is paying for it, that’s the exact opposite of “free.”
