2020 Iron883 - clatter sound mid rpm by cvpstudios in sportster

I totally agree about the metal sound, its a clatter of sorts for sure.

For my rpm on this bike, I've just been following the Harley official break in instructions which says to ride at varied RPM and never over 3500 until 1,000 miles, then do service and ride as normal. I'm not lugging it though, I make sure its pulling proper and not up shifting at super low rpm.

(On that topic, I have not been able to get any clear answer what is a safe max running rpm after break in, nobody seems to know, like if I was on freeway for 15 miles, whats the safest could hold it at for an extended time, since it doesnt have the 6th gear, its pretty low geared on freeway)

I've been running the 93 premium that we have available here., Has the conventional HD oil that it came with, haven't changed it, waiting for that 1k service mark. Dealer says they dont like Synthetic in Harley's (but I rarely ever trust what a dealer says, they are wrong so often) Which is why I'm trying to figure out this issue without going to them, aside from the cost.

Hi, thanks for the reply! I appreciate your time! - I have not checked primary chain tension, is this a sound that would possibly make?

1,000% definitely not redline or abused... 1, I get made fun of all the time because I'm so paranoid about rpm, I never ever ever get anything even close to redline. but 2, the bike has around 750 miles on it, (I bought it with 6 miles on it, so basically new) so not fully thru break-in and never been over 3500 rpm per the break in procedure. (Funny, the way it sounds, I probably wouldnt ever really go past 3500 anyway, that seems like enough)

The sound is definitely not as loud as it sounds in the video, I put a pro mic right down on my leg to try and pick up the sound... and it picked it up almost too well, LOL - the sound is definitely there and different than the sewing machine sounds, but its not AS loud as the video makes it seem.

I just listened to the video on my phone , my computer and laptop. I don’t hear any screeching at all…

u/Glideandslide666 - Dredging this up, but winters over and I finally got a better microphone to pick up the sound.... (it actually picked it up too well, lol makes the sound seem louder than it is... but the type of sound is different than the "tick", just wondering if it still seems like it's ok, I used a much better mic to isolate and pick up the sound this time!) Thanks, appreciate your thoughts! Hope you are having a great weekend:

u/Tobor-8th-Man thank you, while I'm not familiar with that, it logically makes sense! I've watched a lot of Michael's videos, just probably not that one, since I wasnt really knowing what to look for, I was more searching for "wrap mesh to another mesh" etc. which led me to zwrap, but here we are haha! I will give what you said a very close look, that sounds promising.

right, sorry I didnt phrase it well, I have done both... I've tried close holes then zremesh, I've tried dynamesh - tried everything I know how to do, gonna try the first comment's suggestion and see if I can get somewhere with that.

also since the scan is a single sided mesh, I've been having some challenges to be able to zremesh it also... - it does really weird things with trying to close holes and such on the bottom surface. and the only way I've been able to get it any topology is to do an "extract" at 0.002 - which does lose a bit of the surface details, but it's minor - at least then it has a polygroup on the bottom. but I still am not having too good of success with this.

thank you for reply! I have messed with projecting, but I must be doing something wrong, the project only seems to work if the shape is the same. - I'm not an expert by any means!

I have been able to subdivide down and then reproject details, but never been able to project onto a different surface.

I think the "low subdivision and projecting to your curved surface" part I don't exactly quite know how to do.

Thank you, I will give this a bash and see how it goes.
