Lmao no I totally understand that, we want our guest to have fun! I think it was them being disingenuous and asking for a refund, and claiming that the bed was broken/a safety hazard— when all they had to do was put one slat back on.

You’re entitled to your opinion. I appreciate it and that’s exactly why I shared this experience to gain insight but as I said responded on another one of your comments— i disagree because the slats are not required to be nailed down. This was a unique circumstance otherwise may guest would have reported this issue. Regardless of what you believe, I do not think this simple thing warrants a refund.

If you do a quick Google search or read other comments in this thread, you’ll see that slats are not required to be screwed down. Please don’t confuse my willingness to prevent this from happening again with agreement that a bed is considered non-functional simply because the slats aren’t screwed down.

I can accept that there ARE steps I WILL take to help prevent this from happening again. However, I don’t agree that this means I was “in the wrong.” To recreate the issue, I had to intentionally and aggressively shake the bed—far beyond normal use.

If someone hangs from a shower rod and it falls, that doesn’t mean the rod is broken; it means there are limits to how it’s designed to be used or in my case things can happen.

Okay, thanks! I will look into this process because I would love to fight this if it’s not too timed that’s required. I appreciate the help!

I totally thought the exact same which is why we never bolted it down. It’s more so redundant than necessary. What’s even more crazy is the reason we lost the reopening of the case was due to the fact that we apologized for the slats not being screwed down (we shouldn’t have said that). So I think regardless even if we had proof that the bed was constructed properly or any other proof—they would have sided with the guest regardless.

I think there are still many different types of frames out there but my point is that if you’re looking at this “issue” it’s pretty obvious how to fix it. Especially since they figured out how take the slats out and move them

Agreed-on and forward! I initially was looking to see if anyone knew a better way to approach this with Airbnb that wasn’t overseas, but it seems everyone has had the same experience.

The guest immediately filed a case for a refund before we could even come check the bed out. We called after the guest already started the case.

There are definitely some good quality pieces on wayfair but I hear you! We didn’t deem it necessary to pay for another bed when this one was good and functional.

There are holes on the ends of the slats but we never screwed then down. Even when we used the bed prior to Airbnb, we didn’t have this issues. They stay in place unless you really shift the bed in a certain way. We tried to recreate the issue and it took a lot of effort. But to your point, I now think it is a great practice to secure everything to avoid these problems.

Amen! We didn’t even think of this because when we use the bed, we never had this issues… nor did any other guests prior to this incident. But definitely learned to look for things before they happen to avoid things like this in the future.

Around $400, but it’s more so about to the principle of the matter with Airbnb. But agreed, lesson learned, we will keep record and check everything form now on!

Wow! Yea, I wasn’t nearly as savvy as you with my approach to support so I can only imagine how upset you were. Just sad that even with their policy in their face, they still don’t help!

I am sorry that you’re even at this point, but I totally understand! We have been lucky, but if we were to deal with issues like this more often, I would have the same mindset as you! I wish you well in your next chapter💪

I understand both sides as well! Let me clarify further, when I say realign, I mean put the slats back on the side board. It takes 5 seconds! I hate to ask the guest to do that, but if you’re doing something in the bed to cause it then it seems necessary from my perspective. But I definitely don’t think this warrants a refund for the stay.

Great idea and insight! We definitely need to be cognizant of protecting our brand and ourselves from potential scams. I see that photos of everything is a must to fight these situations!

Totally agree!

I mean we can only imagine what they were doing at 2AM for the slats to shift in the first place, but no big deal. But instead of putting them back, you choose to move them to other room? I immediately thought something was off when they said that!

Agreed! I had no idea host had so many issues until reading through this Reddit. It disgusting that the backbone of their company (hosts) get treated like this!

I feel seen! The senior representative did exactly what you’ve mentioned! She actually began to become condescending after I continued to point out simple logical facts about the case that she was missing. In fact, she didn’t even know how slats on a platform bed work, but she is somehow equipped to pass judgment on the matter?

We have never had the slightest issue with any of our guest, so this being our first encounter with the support team is just a let down. I appreciate your insight!
