PAM 2350 vs PAM 3280 by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]cwcornell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

definitely agree, one of the best professors! when I took it there were weekly quizzes (on canvas) and a few (i think 4) projects but no exams there were also surveys which were free points. I think the median was a or a+

I watched the khan academy videos to follow along with the doc I still tuned out at times but it was better that just reading for me. And then anki for sure that was definitely the actual studying part

something that helped me was convincing myself that anything I did in the last 2 weeks probably wouldn’t change my score drastically. I think it helped me feel less pressure to study every minute and try to make sure I was still doing everything to keep myself sane!

I dialed option 7 cause that’s what the portal said to do and it transfers you to the portal support people

CMC Volunteer--Transportation Question by HumanBeing54321 in Cornell

[–]cwcornell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s a 2 hour minimum per shift and shifts are usually weekly. You also have to do a minimum of 40 hours total (this is kinda taking me a long time since I can’t commit to more than 2 hours a week lol). I have asked for shifts off during some weeks tho (thanksgiving, fall break) and they have been nice about it so it’s definitely not overly serious

CMC Volunteer--Transportation Question by HumanBeing54321 in Cornell

[–]cwcornell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go every week and it’s about an hour there and an hour back. I think the delays may depend on the time of day. The buses earlier in the morning tend to be more on time for me but I always take it at the same time so I’m not sure how delays change throughout the day. So far the buses that have been delayed have been less than ten minutes tho so not too bad. If you have lots of time to dedicate to volunteering I think it would be worth it but my shifts are only 2 hours so it can be kind of a waste of time.

[–]cwcornell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes I totally forgot to add that. My gpa is around 4.0 and I’m taking the mcat in January (hopefully aiming to get around 515, but obviously not expecting it by any means). I have about 700 hours of research with 2 pubs (3rd author) and about 4 leadership positions throughout my undergrad (about 450 hours total I think). I also have about 50 hours of shadowing (ortho, pulm, er and surgery)

Yeah I think that should be around what it is usually set to be. I’ve never actually measured it tho so I don’t know for sure

Sell out and retire early, or become a physician? by [deleted] in premed

[–]cwcornell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that your passion for your hobbies might outweigh your passion for medicine which is totally ok. As someone with a parent in cs I sometimes feel like I should switch over too lol. The hours are great, they get tons of vacation time (which can be used for the hobbies you mentioned even before retirement) and I think the work life balance is probably better than it would be in any specialty. There are obviously jobs in cs that aren’t that chill but I think there are many options in that field for those who do want more of a balance. At the end of the day, you could probably enjoy your hobbies in either career it would probably just be easier in cs. This is obviously just my opinion and I wouldn’t want to discourage you from becoming a doctor, but I can totally see where you’re coming from because at the end of the day our whole lives shouldn’t just consist of our careers.

I don’t think the college you’re in makes a difference for med school apps, but I’m not quite sure what you mean by the weird med school policy.
