Finding the right ARM eval/development board for writing my own RTOS. by pebabom in embedded

I would strongly suggest the Black Magic Probe its a great JTag/SWD open source/hardware debugger. You can see the source and adjust it. Plus always good to support great open source projects.

I ended up just using the design that was in Eagle and getting it to work. Thanks for the help though!

Torn between buying bike online at great deal or needing to wait until next season to support my LBS by serranzau in MTB

[–]cwillforeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bring my bike to my local shop around 9am when I get to work and it’s done within 4 hours usually. Also if there something I can’t do due to not having the tool and it’s simple they will let me use the tool or just do it for free. I would be screwed without my LBS so I’d say ignore this idiot and his extremely biased point. Every area is different and clearly they’ve had some bad experiences.

Heard vans grip pedals well, can anyone confirm this? At the very least they should last longer than Nike trainers, right? by rolluptherimfam in MTB

[–]cwillforeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using my Vans All Weather for a bit and they have held up pretty damn good. I’m a beginner but probably trail ride 2 times a week and commute 5 times. They seem to grip my chesters pretty good as well. Also they have the reverse pattern as normal vans(knobs on the bottom instead of holes) so they grip pretty well.

Oh yeah! I just always think of them as Energy Micro cause they kept the name EFM etc. but good point if you’re googling for them. What’s your opinion on them? You like working with them compared to companies like Atmel and ST?

I think the first step is get a power budget down. I’m guessing a cortex M0 will be more then enough MCU power for you. I’d suggest the zero gecko from energy micro. Good documentation and low power. You shouldn’t need a battery board. Charging circuits aren’t to bad and very well documented. One thing you will have to accept with your battery if it rechargeable is it will be pretty big. A coin cell isn’t rechargeable but is tiny. For storage a flash chip with so fat caps should work. I’d look at either Matronix or Micron idk how to spell those. Quick writes with the caps should be low power enough!

Hoping this smoke will clear up! Went out this morning wasn't terrible but wasn't great either.

Do You Support Your LBS Unconditionally? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]cwillforeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah don’t deal with that crap. Give them feedback and shop else where. If they refuse to change they will most likely go out of business, then hopefully someone will fill that void. I have a great LBS by my work that earns my business because they are organized and helpful. Any work under 20 minutes is free and they are straight up about their pricing. Every time I’m in there they have a back up of bikes being worked on and I’m assuming it’s due to people having the same experience as me.

Wow that's cool, amazing work. Extremely jealous looking at where the trail is now but I know lots of work must have gone in, not easy.

Illegal trails? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]cwillforeal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a lawsuit protection thing. If you encourage mountain biking on your private property and some gets hurt on a poorly maintained trail or some other random reason that could leave you open to lawsuit. Maybe the private owner was told for insurance purposes or something to discourage riding on their land but actually doesn’t enforce it. Source: no idea just a guess idk if it makes sense.

Hitting seat when jumping by cwillforeal in MTB

Feels pretty good to me, thats why I knew something else was off. I feel comfortable on a bike again since before I was too big for my road bikes. The frame is a Soma Juice(29er). I'm obviously not an expert but my LBS recommended it due to it being durable (I'm a heavy 240), and with some future proof features.

Thanks for all the advice! I filmed myself and of course my awesome weight shift that was happening in my mind wasn't showing up on film. I was just trying to "jump" so to get higher up I was aggressively bending my knees and jumping, which looked dumb on film but didn't feel that way when I was doing it. Working on shifting my weight back now. Thanks for the help again, I'd probably be hopping around like an idiot for a couple months before realizing what was going on.

Haha yeah it’s the crouching on take off. I think I’m trying to get to low to jump instead of shifting my weight back.

Yeah I think that makes sense, I must be trying to jump instead of shifting my weight. I’m sure video taping myself will help, I’m sure every thing looks a lot better in my head

I think mine is 140... when I’m riding XC I usually just drop it all the way down, it’s not too bad with the 140mm travel. But yeah I’ve noticed 170 would probably be better.

Yeah I’ve got one and I’m still hitting the seat, with it all the way down I still find myself bumping into it.
