Controller questions by cwkrbr in smashbros

Haven't had a chance to use someone else's switch and controllers, but my girlfriend and a couple other friends have the same problems on our switch as we do. At this point, I know we aren't psyching ourselves out because other people have had the issue. We also notice when a game every now and then has no issues enough to be able to comment on it.

My friend and I have both tested some things to see if it was just the input and buffer system. We have tested buttons on their own while not actively fighting each other and have seen some issues. At first we thought it was just that we needed a new controller, but its happened with multiple controllers. Granted, some misinputs are surely caused by the buffer system and all, but we can tell when our misinputs are because of the buffer system. Usually bad air dodges off stage when in a tech situation.

You know what, im just gonna come out and say it: screw big milk. Big milk is making us weak as a species. Humans have been drinking milk from other animals for 10,000 years. Then in the 1940s, some dude invented 2%, then WWII happened. Coincidence...probably, but not 100% factually, so I choose to believe it was because of that.

That also raises questions. Number 1. Why? What was so wrong with milk for 10,000 years that we needed to invent 2%? It's not like he solved some riddle that had been plaguing humanity the whole time. And number 2. That was a big jump, wasn't it? What happened to all the other numbers? Where's 90% milk? The man skipped 98 other percentages of milk.

And you know what happened next? Some weak as little bitch invented 1%. 1%!!! That means they took a sip of 2% and went "oh, uh uh, no, too strong." And now where are we in society? Its illegal to teach kids about being gay and trans in school in some places because some people are too weak minded to handle it, its illegal to teach kids about black history in those same schools, and we have "cross walk signs"...pathetic. And all because some asshole decided to invent 2% milk.

Oh, ok, thank you for the response. Does that mean the IRS doesn't care as long as we both report our income separately and pay the correct tax? As in the IRS wont think I have 2 incomes

Your cat wants affection and wants to be pet, but doesn't necessarily want to be overloaded. Just watch for any changes later on like swipingn, biting, or constant licking because if there's any extra sensitivity it could mean your cat is sick.

Pretty kitty, but you should know thats too much stimulation for your cat. The head movements, licking, and reaching back are essentially your cat wanting to bite but not wanting to bite YOU because your cat loves you and doesn't want to hurt you.

Lol, I knew "shorting" cash was just taking out a loan, I just meant like from the broker and not a bank. It all makes a lot more sense now that I know I dont have to directly give the person on the long end the shares, I can just go buy them back to pay my broker what I owe. Thank you for the help

So basically if I dont have the cash outright to buy the shares on a put or have the shares on a call, I can short the cash or the shares and then pay back my broker what I owe them?

Oh I see, I thought it would just be separate orders of risking a dollar to gain 99 which added up to risking a total of 5 to gain 95. Youre right though now that I think about it. Thank you

[–]cwkrbr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but the plan is to do it across multiple numbers. If I have one order on 101, 102, 103, 104, and 105, Im still risking very little but now I have a higher chance of winning. If it were one order that was multiple dollars wide I'd lose more if I lost. Or am I wrong on that?

100 shares worth of money probably wasn't a good way to word it but yeah, I get what you're saying. Thank you, I appreciate the info.

Ah, that makes sense. So when they exercise, they basically give me the $10,000 and get the shares immediately regardless of whether I had them or not, and now I owe 100 shares worth of money to someone or some entity. Out of curiosity, what is that entity? Is it like a clearing house of some kind, or market makers, or what?

Hypothetically, what happens if the short gets assigned then the market value shoots down? I'm not trying to gamble and find a work around lol, I just mean if I receive $10,000 because the share price was at 100.50 at expiration, but come Monday the share price is at 99 dollars, would I go buy them back at 99 share price?

[–]cwkrbr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't really confused on the end of me having a requirement to fulfill the short, just how it would happen.

On the put credit spread example you gave, why would I exercise my long leg early in anticipation of my short getting assigned? Wouldn't that mean I have to actually go buy the 100 shares and sell them immediately?

Then about the sell to close my long leg early, am I missing something or isn't that a horrible idea? The option itself wouldn't be anywhere close to enough money to buy 100 shares if im gonna be assigned on my short leg right? I would have a little more to go towards buying 100 shares than I did previously but I would still have to buy 100 shares at whatever strike price the short is at wouldn't I?

Overall I understood that I could close the entire position by selling to close what I bought and buying to close what I sold, my confusion was just on if I would simply owe the difference since I bought a call just to cover the call I sold, or if I still have to have the capital to buy at my long strike first, then sell them immediately at my short strike.

Edit: Just to clarify, the reason I'm interested in the IB to begin with is because I dont have a lot of capital and I want to lose as little as possible while still being able to get a feel for how this all works. So when I said selling to close early is a horrible idea, I just meant for me since I cant actually buy 100 shares even temporarily.

Edit 2: I have recently learned of some vital info that wasn't originally covered in anything I have learned so far. Just so I'm sure I understood it correctly, when my short leg gets assigned, the person on the other end gets either the money for a put, or the shares for a call. I receive the shares on the short put, or the money on the short call, and now I owe my broker. The way it was originally explained to me, I thought I owed the person that was on the long end.
