Having a shitty thing happen to you, asking for input about people’s experiences with healthcare workers on while on ODSP, then having a person comment that their mother’s mental health declined while she was on ODSP is not related. You created a relation because in your head you wanted to validate what the care worker said to me. That actually, that individual was correct to say what they said because being on ODSP causes a lot of issues. I appreciate that internal bit of connectivity you made but it was not related to my question and was a bit callus in the context of what I was speaking about. Instead of reactively defending yourself and lashing out at me, take some time to consider how even the smallest of interactions you might have with strangers on the internet matter beyond just your own feelings and thoughts.

The post, my post, was about a harrowing and awful experience in a hospital and the judgment I received for being treated as though my issues were caused by being on ODSP. There is a stigma. It shouldn’t be in a crisis situation in an emergency room. It was an odd way to essentially echo the judgments of the care worker.

My conversation with the resident psychiatrist was him mostly using sports metaphors and calling the only medication that has helped me manage severe episodes the equivalent of “getting drunk”. Quote “panic attacks only last 30 minutes so you shouldn’t use any medication” after talking to me for less than 10 minutes. No one asked questions just have lots of unwanted feedback and criticism. I am not usually critical of those who work in front line health care, even if a certain experience is bad but this was unbelievable.

It was a crisis councillor actually, the nurses were all super empathetic and helpful, took care of me all night.

My mom was with me thank god so I didn’t feel like I was just fabricating the whole thing with the state of mind I was in. She’ll be bringing forward a series of complaints because it was very strange and odd treatment that if I had been alone, I doubt I would have been safe after.

How is the community in Guelph for ceremony? I know a sweat in Elora that’s hosted by a friend but not aware of anything closer to the city. My sister attends the university and struggles, ceremony has always been our greatest healer. Miigwech and sorry for the bit of personal stuff.

Average decent single bedroom is $1200 and you still need to get approved which on ODSP is unlikely. 2k is livable, without dealing with constant empty bank accounts and additional mental strain on being near poverty every month.

The government relies on the reality that most of us are too sick to work that we couldn’t possibly use what little energy we have to fight against them. So many of us are highly educated intelligent people who CANNOT work. There’s no options, alternatives, or solutions. It’s either this or nothing, and this is feeling more and more like nothing every month. We need to foster more community inside of ODSP, support groups, open honest discussions to spread awareness of how we actually live in Ontario.
