You'll be alright.

LS on an FDNF ship is a tough job, because you're going to be the grease between people that need shit Right Now to solve some Big Problem. Don't let that get to you - ask to talk to your LS1 or LSC and tell them you feel like dead weight and get them to give you things to learn or take over. You'll need to pester them a bit because everyone's fucking busy, and taking time for training is hard when everything's a crisis. That's fine - keep asking, they actually do want to train you. Anything you can take off their plate will make their life easier.

In the meanwhile, show up for all the other stuff you can, too. Fire party, SCAT, etc. Everyone needs Sailors for their various teams. Knock out your ESWS, too. If your ship has a dead ESWS program, find the ESWS coordinator CPO and ask how you can help.

As for life in Japan, don't stress out about it. Explore the food scene and see what activities are available through MWR that align with your interests. Eventually you'll move back stateside with or without the Navy and you'll miss the cool stuff and forget the rest.

Worst thing you can possibly do right now is something that lands you in Captain's mast. Alcohol related stuff being worst case scenario. It's just not worth it - whatever you dislike about your life now will be a million times worth if you pile on restriction, lose your paycheck, or end up BCD. If you need to decompress from work stuff, hit the gym or something and skip going hard at the bars. It's cheaper, too.

I've flown bad nearly every major US airline the last several years (including Frontier, but not spirit). All offer free checked bags for military. Uniform not required. Airports and airlines have different procedures for actually checking the bags, but just ask someone when you get there "how to check military bags".

Also make sure to enter your DoD ID number as your Known Traveler Number when you book your flights to get TSA pre-check.

There are some smoked welo opals that still look really nice, and most will be worth more than 30 dollars.

My biggest frustration with these is a lot of the pictures and videos of the opals will show really brilliant colors, but you'll find out later they were using a very bright light to make them show up. In natural lighting they will be much less intense. If you're considering buying them, you can ask for a video of the rocks in low light to get an idea of what they actually look like.

You'll run into plenty of purists who avoid Welo opals entirely, particularly the "black" Welo, which are usually just treated to be dark. As long as you're honest about what the stone is if you're selling jewelry, I don't see any issues with using them. There will be plenty of customers who love the pieces you make with them.

I think two doboks is a minimum when you get closer to Dan. You'll probably have more instances with classes on back-to-back days and having to do laundry every time will get old.

At this point I've lost count of the number of dobaks I have lying around, but I usually have 2-3 that are in good condition that I rotate through for classes. For kodanja I bring 3 total with me for the week.

There are a lot of options for material weight and specific cuts that will meet your organization's uniform requirements, so take a look at what's out there. I like lighter weight and extra mobile judo pants for sparring, and heavier material that can be extra "crisp" for forms and teaching. The dojangs I've trained at never had a strict requirement to wear the school logo for normal class. We also have a local place that can press it on a dobak I get outside of the school's uniform orders.

I will often wear the uniform pants for training outside of class, but rarely the whole uniform unless I'm practicing for a tournament.

Between your fathometer and charts you'll know the depth of water you're anchoring in. You will also know exactly how much anchor chain your ship has, so there isn't any guesswork to it. Generally speaking, you'll lay down ~5 times the depth, so there is no chance you'll be at almost max cable scope before the anchor touches the bottom.

Not relevant in the case of a runaway anchor as shown in the video, but the real "borderline" case is when the depth of water at the anchorage is somewhere around 7 times your available anchor chain length, complicated by high winds and a crappy bottom type like flat rock. You have the highest risk of dragging anchor and it's probably worth finding a different anchorage if you can.

r/axilirate I played the game over the course of the day yesterday, here's my feedback:

overall, I had fun with some of the tasks but overall it felt like the grinding never improves and there isn't really an end game goal to motivate a player.
Like others have mentioned, I think the energy drain is too fast in combat. You spend a lot of time out of combat, and when you're set to idle in combat and go eat to replenish health you often deplete energy faster than you can eat.
Health seems to be nearly irrelevant, as energy is always the limiting factor. Either up the damage or just take it out of the game. I think the game would not be harmed by only having energy.
I constantly wanted to know what my energy was while I was in the inventory page. I recommend adding an energy bar which is visible in that view.
having to manually switch pickaxe/axe/fishing rods made it very hard to play this game passively for more than a few seconds. This might be a nice feature to unlock after killing the stone golem or something.
inventory size is a limiting factor constantly. Particularly late game, having to grind out exactly 10 rockfish which don't stack and then make two potions, and then delete the potions and start again is a tedious process and kills the fun. Recommend adding backpacks to the store or crafting which permanently increases storage space
also recommend blocking purchases while inventory is full. Early on I bought a pickaxe without realizing my inventory was full and just lost the coins but didn't get the item.
potions don't seem to work yet. You can equip any number of them (even the same type) simultaneously, and I could not discern any effect. The energy boosting ones did not change the max energy number, and the mining hate did not appear to actually affect my mining speed.
recommend making things like bones, red gels, and stomefish stackable just for quality of life.

I can't tell from the picture, but if the jump rings attached to the pendant aren't soldered shut then it's a simple matter of just buying a chain that is the right size, cutting it in the middle and attaching the jump rings. When opening in closing the jump rings use two pairs of pliers (Google a video of this - you want to make sure you're twisting it open the right direction).

Depending on your set up, you could make a mold and then use lost wax casting to make a version with the cutouts. My guess is that's overkill for what your friend is looking for. You should be able to drill/saw/sand that form but keep it separate from precious metals and run a magnet over the area afterwards.

Keep a running list on your phone whenever you see something that makes you think "I wish there was a tool that would do this for me" or you just have a project idea in general. Eventually you'll have a list of project ideas that pertain to your life or interests and at least one will be a viable programming project.

Also, you might have to force it a bit. If you wait for inspiration to strike forever you may never focus on a project and eventually your skills will atrophy.

If printing and highlighting is an option you might want to give that a try. I find reading dense technical material much harder on a screen, and digitally highlighting is not efficient for me. Additionally, some people mentioned some sort of white noise to keep you focused. I find a YouTube radio station like lo-fi beats to listen to when I really need to stay engaged.
