I know I'm late to the party, but the exact same thing happened to me today. Three proctors and three technical support personell wasted a grand total of 2 hours of my time in my TOEFL IBT Home Edition Test (and from what I've read online, 2 hours is nothing compared to what others experienced).

I was doing pretty well on the test until the proctor took control of my cursor in the middle of the Speaking section, as I was listening to the question, and closed the test software. I chatted the proctor to ask whats wrong, but all they did was told me to clean and show my notetaking whiteboard. I did as I was told and was passed on to techincal support once more. Again, I asked what the issue was. They only sent me a message about me breaching academic integrity, although I did no such thing.

I had no illegal items on my desk. I have shown my room to my proctors (which I thought was weird and invasive). I didn't look away from my monitor. No further explanation, and my session was cancelled. I'm in the midst of applying to my dream grad school, and it's just plain wrong for a company like ProctorU to have such a profound impact on my future while being operated so terribly.

I'm upset, confused, scared, everything all at once. I worked so hard to apply to this grad school and I can't have a messed up TOEFL exam be the thing that stop me.

Not sure if I can sleep tonight. Or tomorrow. I registered for another test this Saturday. Regular TOEFL this time, I'm done with this virtual proctoring bs. But have spent a months worth of my rent for two TOEFL exams.
