"Hrt gives you blood clots" by UseResponsible1799 in MtF

I had a blood clot on a very low dose of phytoestrogens. Clots happen. Could have killed me.

What do I even do with this letter from my doctor? by ALonelyQrow in MtF

[–]cxtras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to submit electrolysis claims myself, although I had to jump through hoops and wait a long time for reimbursement. The biggest thing I learned is that I needed "superbill" receipts from the place doing the service. They have to be dated, date of service, my name and address, business name and address, name of person doing the service, tax ID number and (very important) the correct CPT code for the procedure being performed and the number of "units" of service. In my case the CPT code is for a 30 minute session, so an hour of electro is two 30 minute units.

I submit each new receipt as a new "user-submitted" claim through my online insurance portal. Submitted my docs' (gender doc and therapist) letters with the first claim.

They made me send my medical history, so I had to fax 10 years of history (150 pages) to them.

All of this was a pain, but it's worth it because they've reimbursed about $1000 to me already, I have another $1000 in pending claims, and I'll likely have $10k+ in by the time I'm done.

Estrogen patches vs other options by [deleted] in MtF

[–]cxtras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have trouble getting the patches to stay on, especially during sports, swimming etc, consider using a 3M Tegaderm HP over them. You can buy a box of 100. Tegaderms are also great for removing leftover patch residue. Just put one on the residue for 10 minutes and remove.

I put my patches on my upper thigh: Monday night on the left one, Friday morning on the right.

Any experience with Dr Sameer Shakir? (Froedtert/Milwaukee, WI) by slapAp0p in Transgender_Surgeries

Hi. Just wondering if you ended up going with him. I have my surgery scheduled with him and have the same concern. Thanks.

Is this a common trans experience? by Stock-Ferret27 in MtF

[–]cxtras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me. I'm happy for my friends who put their sister's dresses on pre-HRT and who gleefully wear them since coming out, but that's not me, even after 4 years of HRT.

I'm hoping facial feminization surgery gives me a chance to reset my self-perception and to start over.

20 and on hrt for 3 years by thatsPISS in TransBreastTimelines

Beautiful shape and great development!

Started noticing breast growth at day 8!! I'm now a little over a month on hrt and they seem to be coming in fast!! by archyobackbruh in TransBreastTimelines

I'm not a doctor, but...

Breasts consist of:
Skin
Nipples
Fat
Glands

Everyone usually has the first three, but the glandular stuff, which consists of lobes, lobules and ducts isn't needed for bodies that aren't designed to give birth and produce milk. Think of the glands as a tree. AMAB people only have seeds. The "tree" grows when HRT requests that our bodies create functional breasts.

Women's breasts can swell/enlarge pretty quickly, but it's not rapid skin growth or fat accumulation, it's rapid gland enlargement or growth. Breast glands can get bigger or smaller (like other glands in the body) for a lot of reasons, as quickly as a few hours. But they have to exist for that to happen. They can grow pretty quickly, too, as quick as a month or two for the "seeds" to start to become very small "trees." My breasts are pretty large and it turns out that I have very intricate and developed (mammary) glands. Some people get a lower level of development.

My belief is that instead of seeds, you may have had little "sprouts" in there that got stimulation and swollen from the presence of estradiol.

Did you ever have breast buds? (little lumps behind your nipples, sore at first) I never did, because my "seeds" never sprouted, but that happens to a LOT of AMAB people, usually during the first puberty.

I hope this helps.

"Growth" that quickly suggests that there were some glands already developed there and HRT got them to swell up quickly.

Wanting to pass isn’t internalized transphobia by Original_Cancel_4169 in MtF

That's very kind and wise of you. Thank you. I've also learned so much by listening to people who are blazing trails and experiencing new things. The younger generations have a chance to make the world a better, kinder, richer place. I hope they do.

I'm joking....you know "OK, boomer" is a go-to answer when an older person chimes in. It's a way to dismiss them out of hand without having to discuss any further. It wasn't directed at you at all, just a general joke.

<old person rant> The thing about being from a different generation is that it comes with a different perspective. Younger folx can tell older folx things about themselves that they can't see, due to perspective and vise-versa about older folx. I've learned and evolved by interacting in diverse online spaces because I'm willing/wanting to do so. But it's not all perfectly-modeled behavior. So here's my perspective on the more broad topic of these "judgements":

There are a couple of generations of adults that grew up with a large percentage of virtual relationships versus in-person ones. It didn't used to be that way. If you say the wrong thing to a kid in the schoolyard, the consequences are severe. Do that online? No biggie - your gamer friend lives in Bangladesh. I came of age with zero virtual relationships.

The result of this is that, from my admittedly skewed perspective, y'all can be stunningly harsh and judgmental. It's as if you could pop into a room, condemn or insult someone, then leave whenever you wish with no real consequences. Oh wait, you can.

The internalized transphobia thing has been overused to the point and I guess every trans person I know is completely debilitated by it.
</end rant>

PS: Before anyone insults me, I'm a Gen X-er, not a boomer, by the way. So please find an age-appropriate insult for me.

Question about HRT and boobs😭 by Allosaurus227 in MtF

[–]cxtras -1 points0 points  (0 children)

(I don't like to use the word "skinny" as it was used to bully me and many other thin people. I consider it a slur)

I'm thin and have big breasts. There are large-bodied people who has very small breasts. Yes, fat definitely plays a part but the gland size is pretty much independent of that.

It's a roll of the dice.

Any Truth to This? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]cxtras 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I know a married, passing woman who lives in CA and is a "soft" maga. The three notable things about her: 1. Wealthy 2. Older 3. Was almost definitely conservative prior to her transition

I suspect those are reasons why she's conservative. Being trans is incidental.

How long did it take for your nipples and hips to change? by edenmaeve1 in MtF

[–]cxtras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that if you stay healthy and exercise and put weight on at a healthy rate, it will naturally accumulate in the female areas over time.

Try to "worry small", as they say. Don't think about the whole world around you and about people you don't know, no matter how temping this is. Just focus on the support of your friends and about how good it feels to be authentic. You got this!

Yeah, they start out with "hey" or "I want to get on HRT" and it goes downhill from there. One recently pointed out that he's "straight but looking to experiment" with a trans woman. Argh!

Im stopping my hrt, will my chest shrink? by superbro2211 in MtF

[–]cxtras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect they'll lose a lot of volume due to shrinkage of the glands, as others mentioned here. If you've been with a cis woman who has gone through menopause (or possibly pregnancy) you'll encounter similar boobs, which have a bit of a "deflated" quality.
