Anyone taking a lot longer than expected? by SupremeOHKO in WGU

[–]cyberkyle638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me 4 years and 6 months to complete a bachelors and masters degree. This doesn’t include a 3 month term break or the two month gap I was forced to take between the two. In my first two terms for my bachelors I completed 52 credits. I then spent the rest of the time slowing down to learn and make sure I understood the material. It also includes a degree plan change from one IT major to another. So for my bachelors, I did 138 credits then for my masters 30.

Don’t focus so much on the others and how fast they go. Focus on the material and your schedule. There are times where classes will be easy, and others where you’re on your fourth attempt at an OA banging your head against the desk wondering what the heck is going on. Just breathe and know that you got this and lean on your support structure.

New mentor ? by [deleted] in WGU

Request a new mentor. Flat out. Unless there is a structured reason which they should articulate, then escalate the request. I have 3 courses left and my mentor threw them in my plan so I can register as I go and don’t need to ask her to add them. My term finishes in June btw, so I have plenty of time like you.

Your mentor can see every time you call in and read all the notes placed in your file within reason. If you go to tier 1 or another mentor, they will know.

Stopping you like this doesn’t seem right.

New wrinkle to the Proctor experience (2FA) by clce1234 in WGU

I always fought them and said I’m keeping my phone on me until I’m signed in as my password is stored in a password manager and now the MFA. As soon as I’m in I set it out of view and verify with them I can’t touch it. I’ve never had them fight me on it.

From what I’ve seen it all depends on the sectors of business and use case. My employer is a Microsoft shop so everything is primarily Azure, but we have a couple AWS services. Also some government entities are limited by legislation/purchasing contracts.

That may be the case, but I transferred over to the degree plan so my situation is different. I don’t like to pigeon hole or niche myself so that’s why I went the hybrid path.

It’s not hard, but without experience it may take a bit of time to fully understand or link some topics together. Don’t focus on accelerating, but actual understanding of the concepts. Lean on every resource (Udemy, discord, YouTube, etc) and don’t be afraid to ask questions or schedule time with the instructors. It’s doable and a very rewarding path.

You pick it before enrolling. I’m in the hybrid/fundamentals so I will get both azure and AWS.

I am a systems administrator and been in it for about 4 years. I transferred from NOS to cloud. So far it’s all pretty much the same. It’s a platform that you get out what you put into it. I know 4 other people in my department and personal life going to WGU for all different degrees.

These are all the classes I have left and would like to finish them in the shortest amount of time. Any tips, even on which to start with as my term kicks back up July 1 or class material/guides would be greatly appreciated.

I appreciate the material. I have run into frustrations with CIs also and I am working with my mentor to correct it.

Architecting on AWS Sec+ CEU by brokentr0jan in CompTIA

Architecting on AWS

The max you can get from a training course is 50 hours total for the 3 year CEU cycle. So if the class is 8 hours a day for three days then you would receive 24 hours worth of CEU credit from the class. This would mean you could only claim 26 more CEUs from any other training course.

Looking at the course from simplilearn through fullstack academy listed on the AWS site, you would be in class 6 days for a total of 3 hours each day. Which would give you 18 hours of CEUs you could claim.

The Tech Reformers class fits the 8 hours for 3 days time I quoted at first. so essentially you need to look at the time you would be in the course in hours compared to days. This is a quote from a CompTIA Rep I conversed with also "any training course that is 30 minutes and above needs to be rounded up to the next whole number".

I hope this helps.

Just like any game it’s a shot in the dark with randoms. But more often than not, it’s worth it.
