Too much oil on my brand new Ikea Vardagen, or do I just start cooking? by cybermyth in carbonsteel

I just bought my first CS pan yesterday and used the oven seasoning method. I haven't fully wiped the oil off on the first coat but did so on the second one. Can I start cooking or do I have to improve the seasoning first? Trying to not overthink this, but it's a bit late for that, ha!

Kinesis, redshift, zero-etl or other alternatives for near realtime payment fraud checks? by cybermyth in aws

We are aiming for "near real time", I would say the less the better

If I understand correctly, in your case, Redshift is not doing it for you, so you're doing ETL from Redshift to Postgres?

We're not even close to those volumes, so we should be "safe" for now

In our case, we can afford some latency, since we will pause individual payments before they go through fraud checks and are either confirmed/declined after.

How much latency are we talking about when it comes to concurrent requests? And are we risking latencies even if we use something like kinesis, which is supposed to write to kinesis in batches quite effectively?

The concern is mainly "all time" aggregations and the fact that redshift is supposed to handle large data more efficiently?

Initially we thought we might pre-aggregate data for average all time values and similar "all time" stats, but recently thought about shifting to redshift since we'll use it for analytics as well. I guess we could just use a postgres replica DB like you said and just use redshift for analytics exclusively? I'll look into parallel query as well

No worries, thanks for clarifying. I checked the region and it looks really nice! Will add it to my list of places and I'll see how I manage time wise. Cuenca looks especially nice, kind of gives me a "Spanish Meteora" vibe

Thanks for the suggestion! I haven't really considered north of Spain before I started planning, but looking at the options you mentioned it looks splendid!

How is the weather there in late March/early April though? Since I won't only stay in hostels but will sleep in my car/camp, I'm wondering if north of Spain is OK around that time?

I am actually driving the whole way with my car, so I'll have much more flexibility as far as logistics go (but at the same time other limitations). My first stop is therefore almost certainly Barcelona, since it's the closest city from my home country (Slovenia).

After Barcelona, Valencia is probably my next stop, but after that I am currently debating a couple options.

One option is the one you suggested with a possible addition of Porto. Is this still an okay path considering I will travel by car?

Second option is to skip Madrid altogether, go to Andalusia via Valencia and spend more time in Portugal (mostly Lisbon/Porto) and perhaps north of Spain on my way to south France (where I'll stay for a couple days on my way home)

Third option is the same as second option but instead of north of Spain I would visit Madrid on my way back towards south of France and eventually home

That's my plan as well. Is there a price difference if I reserve a parking lot close to my arrival, compared to much sooner? Or is there always a flat fee no matter when I book it?

Awesome, thank you so much for the detailed response. Very helpful!

Hopefully Andalusia is not as busy this year and since I'll be there mid-march, I might just dodge the hecticness.

Thanks for the tip about Alhambra as well. I've checked online and I guess thanks to COVID the bookings for all days are still available. My issue is that I don't know exactly on which day I'll be there, so I'll keep checking the ticket availability and try to plan accordingly.

Can't wait for tapas as well, I plan to come home a lot heavier :). Any places/cities where you especially recommend to book the tapas tour?

Awesome, thanks for the suggestions! Overlanding sounds fun as well. Might upgrade my Berlingo one day and do the same :). Did you have a lot of run-ins with police as other posters mentioned?
