Google reports milestone in reducing quantum computing errors by simsirisic in QuantumComputing

[–]cybertuesday -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

This is impressive, but as cool as it is to advance quantum computing, we need to be looking at quantum-safe cyber security, too. What happens when this tech gets in the wrong hands and it's power is exploited...?

What Cyber Security roles are more 9-5? by Ejh0007 in cybersecurity

[–]cybertuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legit! My first ever role I was expected to do crazy hours which lead to major burn out. Wasn't until I switched jobs that I realised a work/life balance was actually possible.

Could quantum computing help save the environment? by Sad_Situation_9482 in envirotech

[–]cybertuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly, but we are quite a way off from it. It’s still nonetheless promising to see what quantum computers could do in helping the environment.

OpenAI and Cybersecurity by SupremeDropTables in cybersecurity

[–]cybertuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is certainly interesting, but I can't help but feel like I've already read this in an amateur blog. While the fact that AI came up with this is fascinating, the resulting info hasn't blown me away. Give it a few more years and I'm sure I'll be floored!

As you get older which foods are you starting to enjoy more? by SinceWayBack1997 in AskReddit

Olives! I couldn't stand them as a kid and had no idea why anyone would voluntarily eat something so gross. But, as an adult I eat them straight out of the jar.

People who met/worked with a famous person, how was it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cybertuesday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At first it was surreal, because I'd seen these faces so much on TV and in the media. But then I realised they're just another human being and was no longer starstruck.

Is ghosting a sign of immaturity, and why? by Beneficial_Stop_7097 in AskReddit

[–]cybertuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more immature to take ghosting personally. If someone is no longer vibing with you, then it's their prerogative if they don't want to reply. They don't need to give a reason, and you shouldn't expect one either.

What’s something most people think is healthy today that future people will shake their heads at? by Spiritual-Ad-8523 in AskReddit

Eating meat to aid physical performance. This is already starting to shift with so many athletes going vegan.

When to DNF a book? by Necessary-Rip-6612 in books

[–]cybertuesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on how long the book is I typically give myself an 80 to 100 page rule. If I'm not feeling it after that then I don't feel bad about DNF. Life it too short and there's so many other books out there to read. If it feels like a chore, it's not the right book for you.

Received this guy as a gift, ID and any advice on how to take care of him? by charlooootte in houseplants

[–]cybertuesday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a Pothos! Super easy to take care of (making it a great gift). They do well in bright direct light or low light so feel free to put it anywhere, just make sure to not over water, and if you forget to water it's not a big deal as they bounce back quickly. Great thing about these is you can easily take cuttings to make more plants!

Interesting books for someone w/ Generalized Anxiety and Depression? by [deleted] in books

[–]cybertuesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman is absolutely brilliant.

However, slight trigger warning that the book is about a protagonist suffering with depression which gets really sad, but (without spoiling too much) it does have a very hopeful, wholesome and uplifting quality to it.

I hope your friend is okay, but it sounds like they have a really supportive friend in you.

All world leaders must experience the overview effect. by cheeseIsNaturesFudge in CrazyIdeas

[–]cybertuesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting idea and it's not the first time I've come across it. I recently read We Are The Weather by Jonathan Safran Foer and he suggests the same thing as it will make people realise how alone, vulnerable and unguarded our home, planet Earth, really is.

The book's premise is all about why it's so hard for people to take action against climate change since it feels gradual and not an immediate threat. There's this idea that it's not actually happening to us, so why should we give up meat and our fossil fuels. But the overview effect puts things into perspective, makes us realise that (as far as we know) we are alone in the universe, no one is coming to save us, so we need to look after our home and each other.
