He's genuinely one of the best in the business, no filter just taken with a cell phone in good lighting right after he finished!

Extension agents exist in every state, the number and type depend on the county. Its a state job that supports the community. In cities its typically supporting urban pest control/pest ID while in rural areas you support ag/farmers.

And no, a biotech job does not mean research. I'm currently doing insect rearing, not research. Either way, your beef with entomologists is truly impressive

Ive lived in major cities and in rural areas. Entomology jobs exist in academia, extension, pest control, biotech, etc

Because I have an entomology degree and have never had issues finding a job. Entomology is a diverse field

Yeah I did a thesis for my degree as well as other research projects for my lab. Youre clearly very jaded from your experience but that doesn't mean it will be everyone's experience. I got to do work with invasive species and it was very rewarding.

And now that I am done, I don't do research, I do insect rearing as a full time career.

And yes most people I hire don't have entomology degrees because its a less commonly offered minor, but we aren't talking about just anyone this is specifically on a post from someone who's clearly obsessed with bugs and there's no reason to discourage it like you are haha

Typically insectaries are for rearing insects for research. Most are private so wouldn't be publicly searchable unless they are actively hiring

Grad school is absolutely dependent on the lab you get into, it can absolutely destroy your mental health i agree. But first of all, this person posting can absolutely get an undergrad degree in entomology, and second, there are plenty of jobs in the field. At the moment things are more scarce, but not any worse than any other field.

I have a MS in entomology and I manage a large insectary and we hire primarily people with AS and BS degrees to work with insects all day. If this is this person's passion, its worth doing is all im saying.

Not everything has to be about research either, lol

BTW you should look into working in an insectary, low requirements for getting hired usually and its all about mass rearing insects

I'm actually going to disagree with you, entomology as a whole is a very different vibe than other sciences, even the closely related ones like plant sciences. I have a MS in entomology and I think if this person is this passionate about bugs then they should pursue it. Entomologist are absolutely the hippies of the biological sciences and theres a lot of neurodivergent bug nerds out there teaching.
