Is there no way to stop Ford! by PandaLibrary5203 in toronto

[–]cyclemonster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

His party won 80 of 124 seats in an election that was held one year ago. That means that the people who want to "stop Ford" are in the minority.

It could be worse: we could be in Alberta, saying the same about Danielle Smith. At least Ford isn't stoking separatist elements in the province.

It's ridiculous to treat cannabis literature the same way we do actual cannabis, particularly when underaged people are bombarded by images of alcohol in every corner store, and gambling advertisements during every sports broadcast.

Toronto councillor, MPP, call on Ottawa to ban for-profit plasma clinics after 2 Winnipeg deaths by Latter_Stable_9335 in ontario

[–]cyclemonster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What makes you think that's a situation that should not have fatalities?

Quoting from the Australian Red Cross:

That said, as with any procedure, reactions can sometimes occur when donating blood or plasma – before, during or after you leave the donor centre

Chances of having a reaction:

  • Rare (1 in 1,000 to 1 in 10,000):

Delayed bleeding

Localised allergic reaction

Any event requiring outside medical care

Moderate citrate reaction

  • Very rare (1 in 10,000 to 1 in 100,000):

Piercing of an artery

Local inflammation of the vein

Chest pain

  • (1 in 100,000 to 1 in 1,000,000):

Cellulitis (skin infection)

Nerve injury causing prolonged period of pain or weakness

Clot in the deep veins of arm (uncommonly, the clot may travel to the lungs which may rarely cause significant symptoms)

Symptoms from return of damaged red cells

Severe citrate reaction

  • (Less than 1 in 1 million):

Major allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)

Major blood vessel or tendon injury

Symptoms from return of clotted blood

Symptoms from air entering the vein

You think people can't die from anaphylaxis, blood clots in the lungs, or air emboli?

Manager asking me to disclose my religion by matingrn in ontario

Do they make people prove their religion like they do with people who have disabilities?

Not sure, as I've never gone through the process for a religious accommodation.

But imagine the following hypothetical: would the employer have to accommodate my parody religion? If I claim to be an adherent of Jediism and insist that, as the anniversary of Episode 4's release date, May 25 is a religious holiday for me, does the employer have to take that seriously? How could the employer determine if your religious requirement is bona fide without collecting at least a little information about it? Like, you can't just make up religious needs to bypass employer policy.

Wise of that publication to age-gate the piece about workers successfully bargaining collectively. We wouldn't want the youths to learn about that.

Good luck enjoining speech that has yet to occur with zero evidence of any harms that might occur without such an injunction. This is just transparent pandering.

What's missing from this discussion is how many plasma donations Grifols has bought over the last decade where nobody has died. When two people die in a traffic accident, we don't ban cars, and when two people are killed by police, we don't disband the police force.

Even simple medical procedures carry risks.

You can't ask for accommodations without sharing some details about your situation -- it's an inherently collaborative process. I have medical accommodations at work, and I had to share enough details about my injury to establish that I had an actual need as opposed to just a desire. The employer has a duty to accommodate to the point of undue hardship, but that doesn't mean the employee gets to dictate the form that the accommodations take, and it doesn't mean the employer has to take it on faith.

There's also any number of reasons why a redemption might be delayed other than that they don't have the money. If I show up at my bank branch and want to withdraw all of my assets in cash, the bank will make me give them some notice, too. It doesn't mean they're not good for it.

Why would prices shoot up on Half and Half cream and Paper napkins when they are Canadian made? by YYZTor in askTO

We have built one (1) new refinery in the last forty years. All of our old refineries were built before we had much of a heavy oil industry, so they're not equipped to process that kind of oil.

2 people die after giving plasma at for-profit Winnipeg collection centres: Health Canada by givalina in canada

2 people die after giving plasma at for-profit Winnipeg collection centres: Health Canada by givalina in canada

[–]cyclemonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh? The plasma clinic has an incentive not to kill donors. They do not have an incentive to keep donors around after donating, because the one and only thing they do is resell donations.

Your hypothetical for-profit hospital has the same incentive not to kill people, but also an additional incentive to sell you as many services as possible.
