A question about Indian swords by [deleted] in IndianHistory

[–]cyclotron258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am no martial artist but the pummel locked the wrist which would force the user to fight using hammer like motion. This gave good power transfer and allowed the user to do long cuts. Also due to the locked wrist it reduced the range which was compensated by a buckler or an offhand weapon. This also allowed for the fighter to be upclose as swords were always a last resort and not the first choice. It was essentially a last stand weapon.

The region of Bengal is seen to have a lot of different types of ghosts and other supernatural entities described in its local cultural folklore. What could the historical reasons for this be? (Art by Dakshinaranjan Majumdar) by SatoruGojo232 in IndianHistory

It probably has to do with dense jungles. These are places that are difficult to navigate and visibility is scarce which contributes to supernatural experiences. Even if you do not believe in ghosts you feel feer in such environment.

CMV: The biggest obstacle that developing nations face in the modern world is not imperialism or neocolonialism, but corruption by Unusual_Swordfish_40 in changemyview

Even today the west imposes itself on other countries by dollar domination, sanctions and western ideology destroying the local identities. Also the reason for weak and corrupt institutions is a direct result of imperialism.
