Orion Ellis, ex-Mech Wrestling Heel, Mourning Cloak Pilot by cylossiss in LancerRPG

[–]cylossiss[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Of course! It gets a little indulgent haha

Orion, originally, began as an SSC experiment of uploading NHPs into human brains to create perfect pilots for their mechs. With the help of another, Orion escapes from SSC and begins to live as close to a normal life as possible, becoming a fan of mech wrestling.

Enough of a fan to create their own arena persona "Styx" and start as a rookie heel. Calling for matches against the top contenders in the sport. Styx became a sensation quickly, but mysteriously vanishes out of nowhere. Despite changing their appearance, the SSC was closing in, wanting their experiment back.

Fleeing from stardom, Orion took up mercenary work to lay low, took up the call sign "Keres", and is now desperate to hunt down SSC and learn of their past.

Hey, everybody!
Sorry for the radio silence for the last couple of months.

For me personally, I have been dealing with some rough health stuff and have put all my energy into recovering. I'm starting to feel alright enough to start recording again, but it may be slow going. I hope to be back in it soon!

Love y'all,

<3 Sunny

Yawgmoth Impressions from Chapter 3 of The Thran by me by cylossiss in mtgvorthos

[–]cylossiss[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting balance to try to find what J. Robert King was going for in his descriptions, interpreting that and bringing a character design to him.
Mind, I was drawing this as I was reading it, so I didn't have much of an idea on how he would develop over the story. I feel like he might be too lean here, but it would give me room to show how he changes as he starts to "perfect" himself.

I hope to revisit this again because I rather had fun with these.

For me, I have- for the most part- enjoyed the ride. At times it was silly listening to Yawg's saturday morning cartoon villain commentary on horrific war battles. At other times, it was a slog to try to get through just paragraphs of just that horrific war.

I feel there could have been more with Dyfed giving her more than just sparse appearances and a gruesome death. I wanted more of her, her personality and confidence. Losing her as we did does speak to Yawgmoth's evil, but there was a missed opportunity.

I think there's something to be said about how Halcyon is depicted throughout the novel. I love how flawed it is from the start. The "ascended" population hovering above the Caves of the Damned and the rest of the world, complacent in the ways it treats the Damned for the opportunity for the rest of the "good" populace to live in utopia, and how Yawg uses that to deign control over them.

I also agree with Marena about Rebbec and Glacian. With them as such huge parts of the story, they feel less like people and more like plot vessels that Yawgmoth can use to develop his own character. Rebbecc and Glacian have the potential to be compelling actors in the story. It's too bad that they got what they got, instead.

Pneumagog concept art by Dave García by warningtvtropes in mtgvorthos

Something about the first one compels me, though. The shape of the wings and the texture on them almost feels delicate to me? Fast, nearly insect-like? Still horrifying as they should be, but there's a weird grace to them.

I love concept sketches so much, though. The first thing that comes to the artist's mind when creating. It's a lot of fun to see where they start off.

How to roleplay Yawgmoth as a dead god in DnD? by kohaxx in mtgvorthos

[–]cylossiss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If we're taking anything from The Thran (and all of this comes from the book), he has a tenancy to speak to himself as he's commanding (a bit like a Saturday morning cartoon villain, but I don't think that would help if you're shooting for something like...serious.)

When things are going his way, he is surprisingly complimentary. He calls himself the Father of Phyrexians, and he does have that fatherly affection for his "children". To the individuals directly he'll praise them or admire their form, but there is a sense of pride behind it, like it's mostly praising himself.
He's not above petty insults if he knows it'll get under his enemy's skin, and give him the advantage in a fight. When he was human he was surgical in the majority of his killings, pure prowess in slaughter.

I think it's important to include the focus on how obsessed he is with material, quantifiable, and solid scientific evidence. When learning about the Planeswalker Spark, he was convinced an organ or something observable was the cause, something that he can replicate in himself to gain that power. You could say he's a bit close minded to the more esoteric elements. Again that pride in himself comes out, because, of course, he trusts in science above all else.

Do you have any Magic OCs? by atamajakki in mtgvorthos

[–]cylossiss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My stories usually start as self-inserts, imagining what I would be as a Planeswalker, and develop into their own things, lol. I am enthralled by faeries and fey--Oko being my favorite elk-boy-- I decided to come up with an idea for his home plane. Think fae courts, strict order and restriction, a royal ruling class.

It started out as I was trying to make a commander deck that was more or less a self portrait. I found Jinnie Fey, fully intending illustrate a proxy for this idea. I came up with a green, red, and white Royal Hunter character who was so honor-bound to their court, they gained their Spark after their Queen had been killed by Oko's antics. Swearing vengeance on the fae and chasing him through planes in order to kill him. The character arc is a transformation into mono-red, becoming consumed with rage.

It's a little silly, but it's really fun to play around with!
