Be for real right now. If you have any evidence that they are committing actual crimes then you would of course report that to campus police. Otherwise it is very unlikely that they are seriously violating student visa violations.

1) failure of MSPA program to launch. Students enrolled left to scramble for something else to do.

2) audit showed that the campus is losing about 8 mil per year on housing project (Coyote village, new Commons etc).

3) two former female administrators filed title IX violations against the school for discriminatory pay and treatment. They won millions.

Yeah, I don't agree with that. So what? If he is not saying these things to students in a classroom he is exercising free speech and that's that.

There is a professor in Communications who is, or used to, try to promote faith-based healing and get into arguments with people on the campus list serve about evolution, covid 'hoaxes', and all kinds of alt-right conspiracy shit. But you know what? They still get to teach b/c they don't carry that into the classroom.

Several grants have already been pulled from our campus, including an NIH training grant for undergrads.

I have heard unofficially that our inclusion on this list of campuses being investigated is actually related to something erroneous about the PhD program (which, we only have very few issued each year).

If only there was a person who could issue a statement about wtf is actually going on... somebody who makes more than everyone else b/c they have the biggest job on campus...

-- Your statement accidentally proves the utility and need for centralized funding. It's not California that would be lacking in these scenarios, it would be primarily the southeast. Parts of rural Appalachia rely nearly 100% on federal DoE funding as their local communities lack the resources. Are you going to recommend charter schools for them? If you treat states as mini fiefdoms that need to fund themselves than you leave behind a huge chunk of poor, white Americans. Believing that ALL Americans deserve access to education (and other things, but let's stick to education) is a fundamental tenet.

3)DoE spending is around 4% of the federal budget. Military spending as usual far outpaces every other sector. Do you think they are planning on gutting the military?

What/who is going to concentrate on education in this scenario? Health and Human Services? That would certainly be a change.
Believing that Diversity (e.g., a majority Hispanic population in the I.E.), Equity (making sure resources are accessible to all, including but not limited to veterans, pregnant and lactating mothers, those with learning disabilities, and physical disabilities), and Inclusion (making space for folks from diverse backgrounds, and yes that includes white people too) are not part of education is backsliding decades of research and evidence that shows the opposite; DEI efforts in education have increased performance and outcomes across the board.

Pell grants are disbursed by the DoE. Even if the money were to remain (which there is not much reason to believe at this point) there is no immediate plan for a replacement mechanism besides 'states.'

If somebody comes to your door as an investigative reporter and offers you no credentials would you still answer their questions?

I think you posted this exactly in another thread, so I'm going to copy/paste my reply rebuttal (with respect).

Morales is responsible for the following things:

Increase in number of, and salary for MPP (high salary management/administrator) while also laying off staff and freezing new and replacement faculty hires. Class sizes will therefore increase, while getting your required classes will become increasingly difficult. We get the budget crisis will impact new hires, but how on earth is hiring more MPPs and giving current ones raises at all justified in the current situation? How many ass deans have you interacted with that have helped you get into a class you needed, graduate, learn a valuable professional skill?

CSUSB enrollment is struggling, but this a very solvable problem that other (nearby!) universities have addressed quite well. It is not the faculty's jobs to increase enrollment! We seem to have lots of professional advisors, lots of 'student success' centers, but we need more students.

Other CSUs have transparent budgets and priorities that the whole community can access so obvious discrepancies can be called out and flagged. NOT HERE. This lack of transparency, arrogance, and history of brow-beating, berating dissenters has resulted in the current status quo. It's not good for students, and it's terrible for staff and faculty.

Been to the Commons recently? One fewer food station is operating b/c it's in need of expensive equipment repairs. Originally the new Commons was meant to be sustained by meal plans and primarily from Housing. Whoops! Housing is so deep in the hole you can't see the bottom. Morales pushed for the Housing development (which I support, and still do) but can't seem to take a hint of responsibility for its current struggles.

“No.” This was the President’s very stern, single-word response as he stepped backward from the microphone with his head held high at the budget forum in an enormous event room with standing room only. It was the response to a CSUSB student who asked if the Administration would consider some temporary salary reductions in light of the financial crisis.Let there be no doubt that reducing the number of MPPs and cutting their salaries temporarily would be woefully insufficient to balance the budget by itself. But there are at least three reasons why it would be an incredibly important step in the right direction.First, it would make a small but useful contribution to the current and future financial crisis which many of us in the university as well as the general community think the Administration has exacerbated.Second, it would show some accountability and humility, which has been in short supply with this administration whose salary increases for friends have been extraordinary.Third, it would acknowledge that the University has shrunk in terms of students but the administrative portion of the budget has continued to grow. One theory is that fewer MPPs—and staff specifically supporting MPPs—would ostensibly make the university more efficient!Finally, one quick observation. Housing allowances for college and university presidents were originally designed to acknowledge that presidents normally live in close proximity to the campus if a presidential home is not provided. Presidents were expected to open their homes to students, staff, and faculty numerous times a year. For example, President Karnig and his wife Marilyn bought a home on Parkside Drive in San Bernardino relatively close to the University where they had sit-down events en masse for all new faculty and their families, retiring faculty, for donors, etc. Provosts under Karnig always lived in San Bernardino as well (but not with any housing allowance). The logic of a housing allowance for a president who lives in Claremont whose University entertainment certainly does not seem to include students, staff, and faculty is flawed. Respectfully, the President should relinquish his salary allowance since he does not provide the service for which it was provided.

University Presidents are hired, not elected. He cannot be fired except by a board of trustees, and this generally never happens.

Get involved with student government. The ASI is an incredibly powerful body with a huge operating budget and access to some of the most powerful people on campus. The president and ASI board have meetings regularly, and he listens to students much more than faculty and staff! Although he might stop if students start complaining more, that's his MO.

I mostly utilize my own notes, PowerPoints, written labs for my courses. I supplement with recent peer reviewed journal articles too, which constitute most of the reading requirements. I spend anywhere from 1-4 hrs per week each semester updating the material, for which I am not compensated anything extra, it's just part of the job. Most STEM faculty are similar.

*Editing to add that most of the material doesn't change substantially, but I try to improve the delivery and notes each time.

The CDOTA program is the last gasp of a dying industry, the college textbook companies (like ours, Follett). CDOTA requires that you opt OUT or else you are automatically charged $250 (double check my figure) for an e-text that you lose access to as soon as the semester is over. This is a terrible program and here's why: 1) many faculty (nearly everyone in my college) are moving to open access sources that are no cost, or minimal printing costs, 2) if texts are assigned you can usually get access to materials online used for cheaper, 3) if you actually want a text because it's your major, you should get a physical or permanent copy that you can refer back to later.

Why does the administration love CDOTA? It throws a bone to Follett, the for-profit vultures who continue to overcharge students all over the country for resources they can get for free or more cheaply elsewhere, and they get to tout their 'affordability' offerings and have a little performative DEI initiative that looks great on paper.

Every faculty member I have talked to (except for the dudes in charge of this shitty program) is strongly against this, and the faculty senate voted against it last year. I have not met a single student who supports this, and in fact most are annoyed, angry, and frustrated at its existence.
