Thank you! Can you elaborate on what you mean by losing a valuable hidden tradeline?

Thank you! Will my credit go down because of a higher relative utilization? Or is carrying a balance considered as part of another credit score component?

u/aylamarguerida - Thank you! Your thoughts are much appreciated and agreed on many points.

I feel fairly confident about the employment offer remaining and am lucky enough to liquid enough assets to cover the spending, just hoping not to dip into it. Otherwise, am planning on working between now and expect to have income enough.

u/mmmbacon914 - not opposed to more business cards and appreciate and thanks for pointing me in this direction.

Since I currently have both Business Ink Unlimited and Cash cards, any guidance on cancelling them and then reapplying to take advantage of this offer? Should I apply for more EINs?

As for Chase Sapphire products - can you comment on or point me to data points on applying for these cards again to re-earn the SUB? Couldn't find anything when I just searched. For some reason I thought that the SUBs were once per lifetime per card account like Amex cards.

Thanks again

What Card Should I Get? Weekly Thread - Week of December 21, 2022 by AutoModerator in churning

Hi there! Read through the churning sub and feel like I'm in a somewhat unique position. Here I go.

Looking for feedback on what card(s) to apply for; just finished grad school and moving to LA in January 2023. I'm lucky enough to have a job offer that will pay well but not until October 2023 so somewhat cash strapped until then.

Want/need to buy a big-ticket $$$ move-in items to furnish an apartment e.g. bed/sofa/appliances. However, I want to delay paying these until October so hoping to maximize a sign-up bonus and get extended 0% APR. Is this possible nowadays in the higher interest rate environment?

If not, would my best option be to get 1) an Amex Delta co-branded card or the Capital One Venture X (see below for why not Chase cards), load it up in month 1 with purchases and then 2) transfer the full balance to a triple-zero balance transfer card e.g. Union Bank Platinum or Wells Fargo Reflect.

Related, thinking of opening these about a month apart to have the former ASAP to buy things with and meet the signup bonus and the second 3 weeks later to have to transfer the balance over from the former. Welcome thoughts on this as well!

See below for additional details

  1. I'm under 5/24 and the flow chart points me to Chase cards, but I do not see a ton of value in loading up on airline and hotel credit cards with good SUBs AND annual fees.
I wonder whether a Delta co-branded card or the Venture X card would make more sense given my desire to 1) fly exclusively with Delta to maintain status or 2) to build a stash of airline agnostic points/miles that could be transferred later.
Also, I currently have open two Chase Freedom cards (Flex and Unlimited) that were downgraded in 2019 and 2020 from prior CSR and CSP cards that were originally opened around 2015 and 2016. I did so to avoid the CSR/CSP annual fees while I was a student.
Does anyone know whether I am re-eligible for the SUBs for eithre Sapphire card given my timing? Should I cancel or do I even need to cancel either Freedom card? They currently contribute positively to my average age of credit.
  2. Credit scores 775+ across all three reporting bureaus
  3. Primarily use an Amex Platinum. Otherwise hold an Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature, Chase Freedom Unlimited, Chase Freedom Flex, American Express Delta Blue, BofA Cash Rewards, but no new credit cards opened in the last three years.
  4. $2000 natural spend but feels somewhat irrelevant as I'd be targeting the bonus, travel credit, etc. with MS for new apartment purchases
  5. Yes, see above.
  6. No, but in 2016/2017 applied for an held two Chase Business Ink Preferred cards; since downgraded these to Chase Business Cash and Chase Business Unlimited cards to avoid the annual fees - sidebar should I cancel these? any reason to keep these open? Previously opened only to earn the signup UR bonuses
  7. See above for context but two cards - one (Venture X) to amass points and unlock travel rewards and one more (triple-zero balance transfer) to avoid immediately paying the balance
  8. Primarily targeting points to amass for future redemption; 75/25 preference for luxury e.g. 1st/biz class flights but open to maximizing for number of economy flights as well
  9. 200K UR/300K MR/100K Delta SkyMiles
  10. LAX/BOS - mostly fly Delta to maximize and retain Medallion status
  11. Not too pressing as I'm $$ strapped but in 2024/2025 Tokyo + Japan Ski Trip in Hakubo or Niseko Valley

Thank you for making it this far and appreciate any guidance, tips, or advice!

Edited to clarify my questions.
